I am no Saints supporter, I go for the pies, I had all WCE in my Dream Team but I must say, Saints were robbed of a win then, some of those umpiring decisions were ridiculous.

its me lads

Probably dpesnt classify as a "Players and Trades in DT" thread...

but

Only really watched the last few minutes and the holding the ball against Saad in the last minute on their half forward line was a bit rough.

me

agree that the late htb decision was pretty dodgy, so was priddis's second free kick for in the back, although technically it probably was there

great match, but yeah overall would agree that the saints got a bit of a raw deal

myalup mullets

Umpiring wasn't the best (both ways) but Montagna shouldn't miss from 10m out with two Saints players on the goal line with 5 mins left

Artax

Don't support either side but the umpires were rubbish all day. Darling copped it all day long so I wouldn't worry about the last few calls much.

disco1992

Yes some dodgy decisions but Jack Darling should have had about 3 more shots at goal from missed frees/great body work that was penalized! so it equals out!

tbagrocks

Yeah please post this stuff in the MatchDay threads! Thanks ;D

But robbed? No

I think everyone summed it up well.

Dodgy and inconsistent decisions all day.

Saad got torn late on, not htb in my mind. Not even close.

On the same token though, Darling could have had 3-4 free-kicks over the course of the game. I do think he needs to start playing the ball more and stop looking for frees (same with you Coxy).

In saying that though we (WCE) led the game for 2 minutes all game.

Did we deserve the win? I don't think so, will take it though.

Were the Saints unlucky? Very much so.

Did the umpires play a major role in the result? Again, I doubt it.

Equal terrible decisions either way is still equality :P

Watched the last half of this one and I thought the umpiring was weird. It seemed they were following the trend of most games where the 50-50 hard to call decisions are called "play on" (which explained why Darling didn't get any, although the one he was penalised for was bs). But then in the last 10-15 minutes they started calling everything. Priddis second free kick wasn't there, for mine. The problem was the lack of consistency from the umps. Call it one way or the other - the non-obvious ones play on or a free kick, but don't change halfway through the last quarter, especially in such a tight game.

This post, and the one above it, are the only ones worth reading in this thread.

A lot of people basing umpiring quality on the last 3 minutes compared to entire game. I'd love to see a montage of every marking contest Darling was involved in just to see how much he was manhandled. Eastern states eyes choose not to see it, though.

Strawbsss

I watched the whole game.
I agree that the umpiring changed in the last 15 of the last quarter, and Saints were robbed. Why umpire a game in a certain style for 3 and a half quarters, and then suddenly change it up at the tight end of the game and start giving away soft free's that were play-ons or ball-ups all through the earlier part of the game?
Not sure if this is an un-biased comment or not, but I usually dislike Saints more than I dislike West Coast lol

Ringo

As an unbiased supporter I agree with the above comment.  For some unknown reason the umps seemed to become whistle happy for the last 15 minutes and this detracted from the game. Whilst some of these decisions may have appeared to rob Saints of the game it was not the umpires that missed the three shots at goals by saints in the last 5/10 minutes which would have buried the Eagles. Montagnas the standout of the three.

AFEV

This happens all the time. It's occurring due to the same reasons that players screw up more (or appear to) in the crunch.

Pressure.

Umpires feel it too.

Honestly if you want to blame someone for the loss, Joey is your man.

I said it in the Matchday thread and i'll say it again.

LEAVE JOEY ALONE! :'( :'(

Without him the Saints wouldn't have gotten close. :)
