Disagree to be honest. As much as I feel he is perennially overrated, you would hope he is #1 for leadership (being captain and all) and is definitely top 3 on performance.

People are being too harsh, I suspect he has been playing under a cloud for the majority of the season.

It's a tough one Sid - I hate having to pick "the most important players" - the team has so many important aspects.

Ivan: Vital in getting the ball down to our mids, although they seem to be doing alright this year even when he's not winning tapouts.

Jroo: Where a lot of our goals come from.

Lids: So damaging going forwards, elite disposal gives our forwards first class service.

Cotch: Leadership abilities are unrivalled at the club, is important as an inside mid at the moment.

Vickery: More important than most think - takes some heat off of Jack up forwards and provides relief for Ivvy when needed.

So yeah. Lots of important parts of any team that makes them function like they do, Richmond is no different. But if that guy in the tweet is asking whether he's in the club's top 3 users of the ball, then he's pretty correct in my eyes.

Also agreed that Cotch is probably playing injured, that knee did not look good.

I'm looking at from an effectiveness standpoint. Cotch, while a great leader, isn't as great a user of the ball in comparison to some of the other lads running around in yellow and black.

True, but by this logic Shannon Hurn would be the best player in the competition. :P

No arguments from me ;)

I believe that efficiency stats can be misleading though.

Compare two players.

Goddard vs Cotchin

God has 8 contested possessions a game with an average of 26 touches in total. Thus, ~30% of his touches are contested.
Cotch has 12 contested possessions a game with an average of 25 touches in total. Thus ~48% of his touches are contested.
God averages 19 effective disposals a game or 73% efficiency.
Cotch averages 15 effective disposals a game or 60% efficiency.

Now this is definitely not a knock on either player as both are jets in my mind that play very different roles. I am simply saying that due to the contested nature of Cotch's possessions, his efficiency will likely always be lower. Its easier to hit a target in space than it is with a tagger bearing down on you!

I reiterate that this does not claim one is better than the other as both are very important to their respecitve sides but look at Matty Boyd, he has always been ragged on for having sh!t disposal but he racks up the contested touches and often wins a ton clearances which are really kicks that are hacked fwd!

Food for thought :)

Great stats el!

And you have hit the nail on the head there; Cotchin's inside game doesn't allow him to have as good a DE as someone like Lids.

Cotch has definitely been hampered by that knee this year as well - cant wait to see him out on the park next year injury free and hopefully well see his numbers rise again!

Getting sick of Daniel Jackson outscoring him in DT.

I just hate it when people bash my man Boydy for his bad disposal :P ITS BECAUSE MOST OF HIS POSSESSIONS ARE CLEARANCES/HACKS FWD! :P

I recon he'll enjoy that bag of peanuts! Plus now he's captain they are salted :o

At least his team is winning. :P
Why you have to go there :P

Soooooooo
Roo +1
Danger+1

So we're even?

Care to add a leveller? JJ v Ty for most goals the next ten matches?

Toga

Hahahaha no way!!

Jroo >>>> Tex this year, Toga 1 - tbag 0. Unlucky for you, but that was the bet. ;)

Richmond beats Adelaide, Toga 2 - tbag 0.

Lambs beat Llamas, Toga 3 - tbag 0.

Cotch vs Danger in the Brownlow; undecided but we'll give you the points for now. Toga 3 - tbag 1.

Vlastuin vs Kerridge in the Rising Star, undecided... Toga 3 - tbag 1.

Aaaand I guess if you want to add Vickery vs Jenkins for more goals I guess we can add that to it. :P

I'm winning! >:D

elephants

I think Vlastuin would have Kerridge in the rising star... Could be exciting haha.

Is that last one really fair? JJ is pretty much the Crows #1 fwd now while Ty is behind Jroo :P

tbagrocks

Crows still have a trio, one unmasked  :o  NRS

Laird, Brown, Kerridge

Hold on .......... I mean Brad Crouch :o
