RICHMOND captain Trent Cotchin has signed a new two-year contract, tying him to at Punt Road until at least the end of 2015.

Cotchin's current contract expires at the end of this season but the Tigers have secured the young star's signature.

"I'm very excited. The club's going somewhere, and I want to be a part of the success that all involved with the Tigers crave," Cotchin told richmondfc.com.au.

Cotchin said the shorter contract the 23-year-old would likely have been able to secure a more long-term deal

Value to the team, I think.

@Nigey - important to our team, yes.. But for me, that top 3 is based on the spine of our team in Maric & Jroo, and our most damaging player in Deledio... Bachar is great but probably wouldn't put him in our top three based on importance.

Haha cheers. It's always hard to pick but IMO those three are so valuable to our team.

Cotchin is very valuable as well, that's for sure, but I base a lot of it on his leadership capacity - he tackles hard as well. But disposal-wise, I agree in that he has a lot of room for improvement.
