This is my first time taking supercoach seriously so i want some people to tell me how they went last year (ranking wise) and what was there tactic (eg. how many rookies did you start, did you spend on the premiums which you knew wouldnt increase in value but would hold eg. ablett and jummy) And also what scores did you get the first few rounds?

Cool9

You need a team of players that are ALL good value, and after that its about team balance.
Too many rookies/cash cows:

If you have too many rookie players or cash cows, you will run out of trades early. If you start too gun players you will not have capital growth. So ... it is about team balance.

Whoops. Accidentally posted early.

Too many rookies / cash cows and you will run out of trades early.
Too many guns and you won't get any capital growth.

Finished inside top 10 000 last year (out of 250k players). A mate of mine did a bit better and he didn't seem ot have to touch his team much for the first 8 or 9 rounds. He had a number of clever but unusual selections turned out to be great value (eg Mattner)

First few rounds was 1950 to 2000 mark

thanks. For those of you who went real well last yr (top 1000) and have done same study this year who are your starting rookies? and is grimes and hill both starting in back too much of a risk?

fyfebe

finished around 1400th and it was my first year (had little idea what i was doing), so hoping i can better that this year since i actually have some clue what to expect now :P

and i also have both grimes and hill starting

I take it pretty seriously along with a few lads in the office, Friday afternoons during the season are usually blocked out for SuperCoach/Dream Team discussions. Spreadsheets have been created for averages, break-evens, future trades etc.

As mentioned in an earlier post, it’s all about having a squad of players who represent value. However, my team structure is based around the expectation of two trades for a particular upgrade (one to sell are rookie and make cash, the other to upgrade your player). By using this method, I ensure that my starting 22 has 15 players that I will not trade during the year and 7 players who will increase in value. What this means is it will take me 14 trades to upgrade all of my cheaper players and leave me 6 trades to cover for injuries and suspensions.

Usually each year my scores start off a little slow as I’m building my squad, but I storm home late in the year. Last season I finished 148th overall but was in the top 50 with two rounds remaining, a couple of injuries hurt me last two rounds.

Hope that gives you some assistance.

43rd overall :)

started off with scores of about 2000, ended getting 2200+ consistently.

didnt have any out of the ordinary strategy to start, made a few early trades, before the first round of price changes to get in a couple of rookies i expected to rise a lot that i didnt have and get rid of a couple of stars that werent perfroming and i expected to lose a lot (i think i had k cornes and b stanton and got g ablett and m murphy) which really paid off. saved trades by playing bench players where possible, upgraded players as everyone does, but kept a few trades for the last couple of rounds when injuries hit everyone, this is when i made a big jump up the ladder and into 43rd overall. hope that helps.

cheers,

chris

Wow. So many good Supercoach players around!
lmk if you want to join the Fan Footy Elite league that I've started up for the members who use this forum ranked in the top 5000(sorry for the plug)
I finished in the top 2000 last year in my first year. My initial team was very good. Fluked it and probably would have landed me in the top 500 if I understood how/when/why to trade. Instead I blasted trades and finished the year weak with 19 players.
TheSuperCoach is right. A vital time to trade is in round 2 before the jump in prices.
The most common format for a team is
Backs
3 Premium/2 Mid-Ranged/2 Cheap
Midfield
2/2/1
Ruck
1/1/0
Forward
3/2/2
Something very close to that.
I however prefer
Back
5/1/1
Mid
4/1/1
Ruck
2/0/0
Forward
3/4/0
Basically I believe that because most forward fluctuate in price you should minimize the premiums in the forward line and instead inject them into the back and midfield. I will trade my 2 rookies and 2 on-field non-premium backs into 2 premium backs. Same with my midfield. Then my forward line non-premiums should get close enough to a direct swap with a fluctuating, then-cheap, premium forward.
Anyway, it's late so my post and English is extremely diluted.
I hope you understand what I mean.

I started off terribly, missed most of the nab cup didn't know half the youngsters. Lost out on dudes like Hill and Palmer that i had to burn trades for. Won my league though, and by finals i chained like 7 2200+ in a row, without ablett ;) but im not making that mistake twice.

I assume because of my poor start my overall ranking would have been terrible, but i honestly dont remember.
