a bit of pressure on cameron, but the only players to kick more than 44 goals in their first 22 games were ablett snr (48), lockett (64) and chris grant (52)

you look at the clubs that they played for and their respective rankings though in those first 22 games

ablett senior haw (2nd) , geel (6th)
grant, fitzroy (12th, 14th)
lockett st kilda (12th, 12th)

only really locketts club was in the same situation as the giants (although fitzroy weren't exactly amazing :P )
