By the end of the season....

Everyone will have teams choc-full of prems.
Everyone will have bombed out with no trades left.
Everyone will have just about the same team.
Everyone will regret all of their sideways trades.
Other (please comment)

Is it just me or....

- Is everyone sideways trading EVERY week?!
There has not been a week yet where I haven't seen a thread suggesting one or multiple sideways trades as quick-fix solutions to relatively minor problems.

Some common names that spring to mind are:
Murphy, JPK, Cotchin, Dangerfield, Hartlett, Sauce Jacobs, Gibbs, Buddy, Mumford, Priddis (out then back in...), Shaw, Zorko, Maric, JJk (Averaging 100 ffs)

Obviously there have been more names floated as trade ideas, and yes some of these have severly under-performed/injured etc but seriously some of these make me cringe!

I personally have 25 trades left, and will use two of them this week, but I know some people will have sub-20 trades already, and are still keen to burn them!

Worst ones so far are Dangerfield, Maric and JJK. JJK is averaging 100 so far (or close enough) and people are looking to offload him. He's a real chance for the Coleman lmao. Maric has averaged 100+ and that's not good enough... and Danger has come out and smahed the last few weeks, proving how much of a knee-jerk reaction some people made.

Come season's end, I can also guarantee that most people will trade out a premium and be disappointed, or else will look to bring that player back in. Absolutely ridiculous.

I have done alot of sideways trades and will be doing another lot this week to bring my trade total down to 17. I have made alot of cash doing this though and made alot of points and i think it is one of the major reasons im sitting where i am in the rankings.

Some of these moves have been good and a few have been a failure. this week im droping Hamish Hartlett for JPK. thats pretty much a straight swap but really if you think about it its 60k to trade in a guy who is averaing 118 and went 143 last round for a guy who has averaged 40 over the last 2 weeks.

HH i could pick up in a few weeks for sub 450k if he turns it around, if he doesnt he coudl be worth 400k.

So how many trades have you planned to make for the bye rounds when stars are rested before/after their bye etc?
And how many trades will be left for finals?

Personally i'm ranked about 1500th with 25 trades left, and seem to be in a good position re: leagues. I've resisted temptation, yet have still made 2 sideways trades. 1 was Giles to Leuenberger, which i've been happy with (Didn't predict Brogan's massive role early on) and then Gibbs was out becuase I thought he'd be sidelined for 3+ weeks which he just about has.

If I had followed the crowd, Danger would have been out prior to his 150+ scores, Buddy would be gone, and HH would be out this week too.

Voted "Other: All of the above" MC, except option 3 as I think 30 trades means teams will be a fair bit different.

I will be down to 13 trades before the bye rounds. I plan on having 1-2 trades for finals, i dont care about leagues at all im all about the overall ranking. Essentially what i have done is use all 8 of the trades we were given extra on sideways moves.

I plan to make around 6 trades during the byes, im happy with my bench covering if need be but im prepared trade hard during the byes.

7 trades left after the byes is plenty with a fully upgraded team. I wont be strong in the finals but already have a fuly upgraded forward line and ruck line.

my midfield will be Swan Ablett Pendles Watson JPK Mundy Stanton OMeara before the byes and Omeara will turn into Selwood/Cotchin during the byes.

GM

I have used my early trades to grab the cash cows.
I can see good rooks drying up soon so i have positioned myself early to hold 5 to 6 trades for finals.

MC

Well Holz, at least you have some direction and a purpose for your trades. Most people aren't exactly using reason from what i've seen.

I agree to you to an extent here. Sideways trades arent bad if you use them correctly. If your sideways trading to chase scores than your doing something wrong if your sideways trading to chase value in BEs than its good.

For example HH to JPK than upgrade to birchall.

really thats a sideways trade from HH to Birchall. the trade makes you 40k and lots of points.

but your right lots of people dont do it for the same reasons.

sammy123

only sideways trades i did was gibbs. My others have been downgardes and right cash cows

Redbaron

Danger to hartlett to Hanley ( still ok with danger going but not happy with hartlett)
Zorko to jjk happy with this one
20 trades left after this week  with maybe 16 trades going into byes left

HotTiges

set myself with the 6 extra trade, 3 sideways or correction trades.. so far done

Duff to Hartlett = Yuck but did win me a couple of league games the week Duff was a late out
Zorko to Rocky = WIN
Bellchambers to Leunberger = Long term win + cash grab

Guns1989

The only ones i have done have been for long term injuries which we can't help!

pikla

Gotta be aggressive early to win IMO. While ill agree most of those are sideways trading Gibbs was valid and with the extra trades this year 1 or 2 sideys won't hurt

kilbluff1985

yeah i try to get a full team as early as possible

i have 20 trades left and 17 premiums

to get 5 more premiums i figure i'll need 5 downgrades and 5 upgrades should be done at the end of the byes with 10 trades left

then i can try and get in a couple more premos as bench cover and still have 6 trades left

Mat0369

I have effectively made 1 sideways trade this season, the rest have been upgrade/downgrade. That trade was Zorko>Buddy after trading Karnezis to Mayes. Buddy was going to come in my team at some point and looked to be in good form at that point. Zorko still has not really done anything other then that 1 score, but it would have to be considered a flop since I could have got Stevie J in then and saved myself the Dwyer to Stevie J trade.
