I'm gonna put it out there the umpiring across the board has been below standard this season. I mean, yeah, everyone loves to hate the umps, but usually it's bearable.. This season it has been pretty appalling. :-\

I agree it's been shocking this year watching the Roos game yesterday and Swallow was copping it for everywhere but wasn't getting the frees even the commentators questioned it.But that game overall had shower umpiring.

Toga

Oh really? I didn't see that game so couldn't comment but just the inconsistencies in everything has pissed me off so far.

Watching the Port/Richmond game yesterday, there was massive inconsistency in the calling of high tackles, and then some obvious breaches of the sliding rule that weren't picked up. Gieschen has some work to do to get his mob in line, really affects the enjoyment you can get out of a game if the umps are just ruining it.

Thing that gets me is it isn't an isolated incident, it seems like there is problems with the umpiring in every game just about. Like that ANZAC round, every game just about was affected.

Get something done, Jeff! >:(

LF

Yeah I saw a bit of that game as well before the Eagles started and during the breaks.
From What I saw yeah there were some questionable decisions and inconsistent ones.

What burns me with the umpiring is when they call a free for over the shoulder or in the back at one end and then the same thing happens a minute later and no call that rule there is one of the worst umpired rules in AFL.

Toga

Yep, that is exactly what I mean with the Tiges/Power game. One minute Chad Wingard runs head first into Dan Jackson and gets a high free kick, the next minute Robbie Nahas runs into Boaky, same situation, but no free.

Grinds my gears haha. :P

But in saying that I'm not at all saying that the umps were biased to Port yesterday, seemed like it was pretty even, it's just the inconsistencies that drive me batty! ::)

its me lads

Too many rules and interpretations these days, umps are putting too much pressure on themselves. What's annoying is that they pay free kicks which are and aren't there, what they don't realise is that there's actually a footy game going on. Let the game flow naturally and make the necessary decisions, umps shouldn't try to control the game.

Ringo

With regard to umpiring and I have been consistent all along is all we want is consistency in paying  frees atc at both ends of the grounds.  I can excuse the interpretations if the consistency was there but at the moment there is no consistency,

I thought the umpiring in the Hawks game last night was pretty good. They let the game be pretty free-flowing but there was a horrendous score review mix up.
