Im in awe of how the Cats have managed to keep up the good form for so long.

10 Players running around with under 50 games.

Winning games without Corey and Chappy. If they mange those 2 guys for the year until finals...look out.

Im really starting to think they have eclipsed the 3 x premiership era of the Lions, without the extra salary cap bonus that the lions had.

Cats have won 125 from 150 since 2007

Sure I may get flamed for this opinion.

Im dribbling about from year 2000+ (not from 1913 - 2013)

Any1 agree?

For a one season span Essendon have the greatest team in the 2000 season. They really should've gotten 2 premierships from the 1999-2002 period. Just fell at the hurdle a few times. Geelong are the greatest in a massive time span from 2007 to.....now.  :P

Cats are amazing. I'd agree with you that they are the best team of the last 10 years easily (as long as I can remember).

Collingwood is a team of stars, Sydney are a star team... Geelong is both.

They can go all the way again this year.

Well, relating this question back to my team, Port Adelaide, Geelong are the better side. Port got to play both in a grand final, and well, yeah...

I still lay claim to something not being quite right at Geelong, for a few years i've been thinking that salary cap was breached, now this Essendon investigation has got me thinking. There are some similarities between Essendon now and Geelong in 2007. I say no more.

Cats have been brilliant over the last 6 years.

I may be biased surprise surprise but think Brisbane still have the edge slightly. Reason Brisbane won 3 premierships straight and made the 4th going down in the GF.

Geelong at the moment remind me a lot of those Brisbane years in that they are not really spectacular week in week out but do enough to win really lifting when required.

Just a comparison Brisbane's 2003 Grand Final winning Team (their last premiership)
BRISBANE LIONS
Backs: Johnson, Michael, White
Half-backs: Lappin, Leppitsch, Power
Centres: Pike, Voss, Copeland
Half-forwards: Caracella, Brown, McGrath
Forwards: McRae, Lynch, Bradshaw
Followers: Keating, Black
Rover: Akermanis
Interchange: Charman, Ashcroft, Hadley, Hart

GEELONG CATS 2011 Premiership Team (thier last premiership)
B: Josh Hunt, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Lonergan
HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, David Wojcinski
C: Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel, Andrew Mackie
HF: Steve Johnson, Tom Hawkins, Travis Varcoe
F: Trent West, James Podsiadly, Paul Chapman
Foll: Brad Ottens, Cameron Ling, Joel Corey
I/C: James Kelly, Mathew Stokes, Mitch Duncan, Allen Christensen

Would be an interesting match up between these 2 teams.

Should Geelong win the cup this year then I would lift their rating to equal with Brisbane.

One thing for certain though the statement made in 2003 that we may never see a team achieve what Brisbane has achieved in the immediate future has gone out the window with Geelong.

Will not go into the arguments about concessions for Brisbane and Sydney as they have been well documented but you can only play within the rules that have been set and Brisbane have done that.  Bear in mind I have been supporting Brisbane since 1988 so have been through numerous ups and downs.

Brisbane were an unbelievable side and to win 3 on the trot was an incredible feat, but i think the Cats are better. they've been a great side and around the mark for 7 consecutive years with 3 flags (maybe a 4th this year?) and it doesn't look like ending any time soon

Go away essendon scum, Geelong/Brisbane > Essendon.

The Cats have insane youth. They will make top 8 every year for the next decade. Calling it early ;)

Haha yeah, don't think Essendon compares anywhere close to Geelong and Brisbane. Even Hawthorn. :P

The scary thing about the cats is that with all the new talent they've brought in they will still be premiership threats for the next 5 years and beyond, their recruiting and development is outstanding.

The Geelong Era is far more dominant than the Brisbane one.
Brisbane were never the best side of the season they just performed in the finals very well. Geelong have the highest winning percentage ever made over an extended period. 7 years in their case at over 80% winning. Thats un heard of. Add to that 3 flags a runner up and are sitting top of the table again.. Wowweee

quinny88

Cats for me. Particularly in 2007, I've never seen a more dominant season from a club. And it all started when they thumped my tigers by 150... :( kick started the era.

Brisbane had Alastair Lynch. /thread (Lynchy is one of my favourite players of all time, don't say it much though)

Would probably say bombers of 2000 was a better side than Brisbane 01-03 and Geelong 07-, but obviously only won 1/3 as many flags so the Lions and Cats sides are greater teams.

Would lean towards Brisbane as better, because I rate the aforementioned Lynchy but also Black, Voss, Aker (3 brownlow medallists), and other guns like Lappin, Brown, Ashcroft and Hart above Bartel and Ablett (Brownlows) and Scarlett, Selwood, Chappy and Corey.

Really like Lynchy as well. My favourite Lynch moment was the 2004 Grand Final when he announced his "retirement" by flattening Wakelin in the first minute.
