Robbie Gray over Daisy??

Seriously starting to have doubts about Daisy and thinking Gray could actually be a legitimate option. Thought I'd break it down as I see it.

Daisy ($411,800): Priced at an average 83 at the moment which looks like value but is it? His role is up in the air at the moment with Bucks saying he won't be playing that role in defence every week. Even if he does, he will most likely cop a forward tag because he is a pretty effective user of the ball. This week he almost certainly will cop the De Boer tag. If he's not playing down back, I can't see him getting much time in the midfield because the Pies mids are already stacked with Swan, Pendles, Beams, Sidebottom, Ball and even Harry O'Brian getting a fair chunk. I'd still say he's underpriced but doubt he can avg much more than 90 from here on. Next 4: Freo, Geelong, Sydney, Lions.

Gray ($270,600): To start off with, you pocket a cool $141,200 if you get Gray over Daisy. Gray is priced at an average of 55 so it's certain he'll outscore that by at least 25, as long as he stays fit. There's the problem though, Gray is a big injury risk and things could go sour very quickly if his knee plays up. If he stays fit for the next 4-6 rounds, he will most likely top out at $425-475k, giving you an easy stepping stone to whatever premo forward or mid you want and score you 80-90+ in that time. Apart from his knee, the other problem with Gray is that he plays for Port so he won't be in too many blow out wins and will likely face more losses than wins. Even so, a fit Gray should still avg 85+ which isn't much lower than Daisy, and he's almost 150k cheaper. Next 4: Richmond, Carlton, Geelong, Bulldogs.

So what do you reckon? Is Gray too risky? Is Daisy justified after one good performance? (Btw both are DPP fwd/mid)

gray over daisy easy in my books 140k is alot and im sure you can use it more wisely to gain more points.

For example Gray + Stanton (in a few weeks) easily beats Thomas + Wines

Sweetness

Exactly what I'm thinking at the moment.
Great write up

I wrote an anti-Gray post a few days ago but whilst writing it realised he had much more upside than I gave him credit for, so in a complete 360 I think I'm going to get him  :-[ essentially for the reasons outlined.

I DO think there is some Daisy-steria going on at the moment over 1 (count em it's only 1) good performance this year. I'd rather sit back and see where this goes, he's always been capable of the odd quiet game so there will be other chances to get him regardless.

The extra cash also gives me a chance to make another upgrade elsewhere ad given the lack of rooks this round a double-up sounds good to me.

That's what I'm thinking. I could get Vlastuin, but Gray is like a better scoring rookie substitute. He should go up 150k, which is what you'd ask of a rookie. And he comes without the JS and low scoring concerns of Vlastuin.

Ricochet

I'm going with Gray simply for the money and I think he will only score 5-10ish less points than Daisy

hardnut

I've already got Vlaustin so the cupboard is totally bare for me rook-wise. Just have to decide between Neade>Lecca or Wines>Swallow..

Gray named in the pocket and Thomas on the wing but I'll probably still go Gray.

do you guys think robbie gray will score more than sam mayes this week?

its me lads

Was sold on Daisy but as the week had progressed i'm having more doubts. Not keen on Gray though, only going for keepers now and don't think he will be that.

+1. Too hard to trade out a mid-pricer when you want to, other carnage gets in the way :(

That's true but I'm in a slightly different situation than most which I explained in another thread:

I'm in a pretty different situation because I'm not getting Vlastuin so I'm hoping Gray can be a higher scoring rookie substitute and make 130k+. Not really picking him as a keeper but if he averages 90+ I will hold for a while.

Thinking about the comparison, you make a fair point, and seeing as you can select either player in midfield you can weigh up the move without differing the player you're trading out. I guess it comes down to how much cash Vlastuin is going to make. Do you not rate Vlastuin that much?

Maybe Vlastuin v Gray is worth a thread on its own?

It's not only about the cash for me. It's about points on the board. I'm buying Gray expecting 80+ every week whereas Vlastuin can only really promise 60+ and will probably be very inconsistent. Also I have enough money for Daisy so I don't really want 320k sitting in my bank if I were to get Vlastuin.

I'm picking up Gray for Dwyer next week
