Round 7 Results

This was our rivalry round and as a result no home ground advantage applied for this round.

There were quite a few late changes this round and maybe because of the Monday night game not all scores were updated prior to 9:00am this morning.

This round threw up some intriguing results with the Falcons suffering their first defeat, the Lobsters winning their first game of the season, and a great individual score of 206 for Jack Steven from the Owls,

Huddersfield Hawks 27.11.173 defeated Newcastle Falcons 22.16.148
Hawks win the inaugural Raptors cup.
The Hawks have inflicted the first defeat on the Falcons. In a great game the 2 captains Jobe Watson and Josh Kennedy had a great head to head tussle with honours being shared for the day.  Unfortunately for the Falcons they were badly let down by their other midfielders which allowed the Hawks to control the midfield and control the result. Big Ben McEvoy easily won the ruck duel but with his mids Falcons were unable to take the advantage given with David Zaharakis and Sam Mitchell having a field day. This enabled the Hawks forwards of Breust and Sylvia to shine. Cory Enright marshaled the Hawks defence to repel a lot of the Falcons attacks.
Best Players:
Hawks: Josh Kennedy, David Zaharakis, Sam Mitchell, Colin Sylvia, Corey Enright
Falcons: Jobe Watson, Ben McEvoy, Joel Selwood, Matthew Stokes.

Bradford Badgers 27.14.176 defeated Crosby Cruisers 24.16.160
Late changes Dennis Armfield replaced Dominic Cassisi for the Badgers,
The Badgers have rebounded to record a comfortable victory over the Cruisers. The Badgers midfield controlled the ball capitilising on the work done by ruckmen Will Minson. Both Captains had sub par games but the Badgers back up brigade really stepped up.
Best Players:
Badgers: Ryan Griffen, Pearce Hanley, Dion Prestia, Michael Barlow and late replacement Dennis Armfield
Cruisers: Steve Johnson, Sam Kerridge, Travis Boak, Heath Scotland, Darren Jolly.

Winchester Warewolves 25.16.166 defeated Birmingham Bombers 20.15.135
Late Changes Ben Reid replaced Tom MacDonald for the Bombers.
The Warewolves recorded a comfortable win over the very disappointing Bombers. The Bombers coach was furious at his sides insipid display in recording their lowest score of the season so does this mean changes at the selection table this week?  A number of Bombers were really down on form but none more so than Captain Marc Murphy who struggled through the match with a foot injury. With the midfield capitilising on the excellent ruck work of Jarryd Roughead the Bombers were unable to contain the Warewolves forward Tom T Lynch who starred with 10 goals.
Best Players:
Warewolves: Tom T Lynch, Jarryd Roughead, Matt Priddis, Sam Fisher, Nick Vlaustin.
Bombers: Jack Ziebell, Bernie Vince, Matt Jones, Jordan Lewis

Liverpool Lobsters 25.16.166 defeated Staines Steins 20.15.135
The Liverpool Lobsters win the Inaugural LiveStein Cup
Late changes: Hayden Crozier moved forward to replace Ricky Henderson and Ryan Crowley moved to Interchange bench for the Steins.
The Lobsters have recorded their first win of the season and coach was seen to be smiling for the first time this season. The Lobsters welcomed back their captain Brent Harvey for his first match of the season and he did not let the side down. Ruckman Todd Goldstein gave the Lobsters midfield first use of the ball and this went a long way to giving them their first win of the season. Nick Riewoldt and Chris Judd tried to lift the Steins but were not helped by their under performing team mates.
Best Players:
Lobsters: Harley Bennell, Todd Goldstein, Brent Reilly, Michael Walters, Brent Harvey
Steins: Nick Riewoldt, Chris Judd, Kieran Jack, Ryan O'Keeffe

Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs 25.11.161 defeated Manchester Magic 22.17.149
Hedgehogs win the Inaugural Red Cross Cup
After being close for most of the match the Hedgehogs come away with a win with a good last quarter. The Magic are proving to be a little inconsistent but when all players click together as a team they will give teams a fright. The Magic were able to win the Ruck Contests with Zac Smith playing his best game of the season but the Hedgehogs midfield led by Scott Selwood, Dustin Martin and Josh Thomas were able to exert control. When the Magic did get the ball they were faced with the outstanding defensive efforts of Paul Duffield who chose this game to show what he is capable of.
Best Players:
Hedgehogs: Dustin Martin, Paul Duffield, Scott Selwood, Josh Thomas, Luke Parker
Magic: Zac Smith, Steven Motlop, Callan Ward, Brandon Ellis.

Nottingham Hoods 24.13.157 defeated Leeds Leeches 22.10.142
Late changes Sean Dempster replaced Courtenay Dempsey and Heath Grundy oop replaced Clinton Jones for the Hoods and Sam Dwyer replaced Andrew Carazzo for the Leeches
The Hoods recorded a comfortable victory of the Leeches who like the Magic are having trouble finding some consistency.  The hoods midfield led by Gary Ablett and Scott Pendlebury completely dominated the leeches to set up the win.
Best Players:
Hoods: Gary Ablett Jnr, Luke Hodge, Scott Pendlebury, Brad Sewell, Matt Rosa
Leeches: Brett Deledio, Sam Dwyer, Jack Viney, Jeremy Howe, Nathan Van Berlo

Bilston Bunnies 21.14.140 defeated Swindon Swaggers 20.11.131
Late Changes: Chris Mayne moved to forwards replacing Ryder with Ben Stratton to interchange bench replacing Mayne for the Bunnies and Mark Blicavs replaced Shane Mumford, Thomas Murphy moved to defence replacing Brent Guerra with Taylor Duryea moving to Interchange bench.
In a somewhat sloppy game the Bunnies outlasted the Swaggers winning by 9 points. It was somewhat of a pity that the Swaggers players could not match the effort of Tom Rockliff who single handedly nearly got the Swaggers home. The Swaggers are another team that needs to find some consistency, although the Bunnies have shown some inconsistencies as well.
Best Players:
Bunnies: Chris Newman, Richard Douglas, Luke Dalhaus, Shannon Hurn
Swaggers: Tom Rockliff, Jarryd Blair, Grant Birchill

Swansea Breakers 24.14.158 defeated Grope Lane Giants 20.12.132
Swansea Breakers win the Inaugural Lions Shield.
The Breakers never let the Giants into the game with Swan, Sidebottom and Moloney dominating the midfield and giving Goodes great service to capitilise, The ruck contest between Matthew Leuenberger and Nic Naitanui was very tight all day with Berger just getting the points. Garrick Ibbotson was outstanding in defense for the Giants but even he was unable to close down the constant wave of attacks from the Breakers midfield.
Best Players:
Breakers: Steele Sidebottom, Adam Goodes, Brent Moloney, Dane Swan, Mitchell Golby
Giants: Garrick Ibbotson, Matthew Wright, David Swallow, Matthew Leuenberger, Brock McLean

Oxford Owls 24.10.154 defeated Hastings Hurricanes 22.14.146
In another hard fought game the Owls just got up over the Hurricanes.  The Hurricanes were forced to play 2 players out of position which effected their total scoring. The Owls really owe their win to an outstanding performance by their mid fielder Jack Steven who has recorded the highest individual score of 206 for the season. With Steven dominating it made it extremely difficult for the undermanned Hurricanes defence to halt the flow although they toiled manfully to keep the score to a respectable level. Steven was the difference between the sides as Dangerfield Mundy and Cornes kept pace with the rest of the Owls midfield.
Best Players:
Owls: Jack Steven, Scott Thompson, James Kelly, Robert Murphy. Jaeger O'Meara
Hurricanes: Patrick Dangerfield, Kane Cornes, Brendan Goddard Drew Petrie, David Mundy

Lodgement sheet for round 8 will be up later today and the results and table will be updated as well.

Gee I hate a Monday night game as it effects getting info finalised.

Damn forgot to update my scores with a Monday night game. Oh well, we wouldn't have won anyway. Need to get some consistency from the boys and string together some good performances.

Good read Ringo.

It doesnt bother me but Dempsey was not a late out, already knew and had Dempster in the side for him ..and my replacement for C.Jones who was a late out was Nick Lower my emergency midfielder who scored 109 and i thought we would have an extra day to update our scores because there was a monday game and i work.

You are correct with your team mate - For some unknown reason there was an error in the formula I had uploading your team that kept Dempster in backs and Dempsey on emergency instead of Lower,  I have manually corrected and the scores for overall will be adjusted.

Your correct score is 1625 AFL Score 162.

Apologies and thanks for bringing to my attention.

Regarding the update they have to be done by 9:00am on the day following last game so meant 9;00am Tuesday.  May have to revise this for further Monday night games to accommodate but will mean another day in getting results out.

Ringo just a thought regarding Monday night games

due to people having work the next day and the game finishing at 10:30pm then scores not up until 11pm is it reasonable to give an extra 12 hours to post scores? so say 9pm?

i know people could say people have work after Sunday evening games to on Monday but Sunday games usually finish by 7:30pm

Colliwobblers

that or just scrap the 20 point bonus for monday night games, people should / will do the right thing and upgrade their scores for you anyway if they can and as soon as they can .....

you have us well trained after 7 rounds :)
