Club Statement
By David EvansExclusive to essendonfc.com.au 04:57PM May 01,13

Essendon Football Club chairman David Evans has issued the following statement:

Contrary to media reports, the Essendon Football Club has never conceded that our players have been given banned substances in 2012.

We asked for the ASADA and AFL investigation and out of respect to the players, those investigations must be completed without prejudice.

I want to repeat, our club has not conceded that our players have been given banned substances in 2012.

At all times, the Board's primary goal has been to look after the interest of our players.

On behalf of our members, I want to thank our players for the leadership and resilience they are showing under pressure. They are young men of great character and continue to display their commitment to our club.

If ASADA or WADA did approve it in writing to Dank then this whole thing is a joke. Nothing new has come out in weeks though. Just journo crap to keep it the readers hooked. None of us really know what's going on.

I think this is semantic posturing, as far as I am aware they are not denying that players took AOD 9604, they're debating the status of it being banned or not. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought it was currently down to, they admit that players took the drug, but they don't believe it was banned.
I'm still intrigued to see how it pans out, but I don't think WADA is in doubt about it's status.

I can see absolutely no reason why ASADA or WADA would have approved it, and they deny that they did. I can see a bunch of reasons why Dank/Essendon would claim that they did get approval, even if they didn't.

eh, maybe it wasn't on record that they approved it, or the person who approved it no longer works there, or they just forgot they approved it.

And maybe the dog ate there homework.

Come on, if it had been approved, they would have had record of it. They don't. So either they lost it because of incompetent record keeping, or it never happened.

I have had many dealings with WADA in the past, can't comment specifically on ASADA. But I can tell you they are meticulously professional, and if Ziggy's report is anything to go by, I am incredulous at the lack of record keeping and very loose-cannon type attitude that seems to have been prevalent. They would have record of the approval, and it would not be dependent on a staff member still working there. They don't just 'forget' about issuing approval, they don't take that sort of thing lightly.

it really depends. Like if the bombers just fired off an email going- yo is this banned, and someone just sent back- nah, sa'll good, get jacked up, then it wouldn't be on the records.

if guilty I think they should be stripped of all premiership points from last year/ this year + non taken draft picks

Than Essendon would have a record. Everyone email I've ever sent in my job can be recovered somehow.
