Carlton would not want  many supporters like yourself very negative views get behind them

Have you actually looked at the fixture? If they lose to Richmond there is no way they beat Collingwood in round 2, Geelong in round 3 (at Etihad stadium where they are historically bad), West Coast in Perth in round 4 and then they play the Crows who were in a Prelim last year round 5 at Etihad where they got smashed last year. It is not called being negative, it is called realism. If you lose to a team you historically smash in every round 1 encounter, good luck beating 3 teams pushing for top 4.

It also does not help when you leave out one of your most important players in Laidler who sets up that back line when Heath Scotland is also out with his suspension. Laidler and Scotland are the two who set the zone up. When Laidler and Carrazzo went out last year and Carlton collapsed, it was not a coincidence.

Mat0369

Also add the fact that spud Joseph got a game ahead of Laidler, Curnow and Bell. Watch him play a game in the last 24 months and he does not belong at the AFL level.

I'm a richmond supporter so we no about keeping the faith I just think you are being a bit over the top with your team , all of those games are winnable otherwiise there is no use of them being in the draw and I'm sure Malthouse will get the best out of them.

ants

seen joseph play ! hes up and down but bootsma now that guy is crap!!!

Apart from the fact you have to play every team at least once in a season.

Joseph was good for his first two seasons, then his play dropped off and he has had a run of games which were terrible. He has no business being in the team.

Boots is just a young kid with an underdeveloped body. When he gets a bit more meat on his frame he will be seviceable. He was impressive in a couple of games last year but got outbodied easily in others and looked out of his depth.

We are not coaches and I'm sure that they are putting the best team no matter what club on the field , why would they do otherwise but any way Mat0369 C'MON THE TIGES.

Woo woo woo!.easy!

Different year, different team, different coach, different game plan and different opposition.
How can you possibly be so negative already. Malthouse for a start plays defensively and sets his plays up from the back half - hence Yarran, Tuohy, Duigan, Gibbs who will provide more run (eg. heath Shaw, harry o brien) out of defense. Yes Scotland is missing but Laidler hardly set the world on fire pre season. He is still coming back from some horrid injuries and looks to be down on confidence which is why he missed alot of targets in NAB. He will come good and be in the side at some point. Alot more competition for spots this year with fewer injuries. have faith my friend and relax. The Blues will be fine.

'No way they can beat Collingwood' - are you serious? Look at last season, Blues were premiership favourites when they destroyed the pies, then fell into form slump. Anything can happen, and things can turn quick.

'Historically bad at etihad so can't beat cats' - if Warnock kicked straight they would have beaten the Cats at Etihad

'West Coast in Perth' - remember 2011 final, 4 pts I believe. Was it a free kick to Walker? Who knows...

'Adełaide at Etihad' - Bombers showed never give up last week despite being smashed in Q1

Mat you are not being realistic, you are being unjustifiably negative. They haven't even played a game!!!

tbagrocks

Who cares really? These guys aren't the linch pin of your team anyway, bad luck if you didn't go JJK ;)

Karpark still good and Varco will play, Rowe was never going to score much.

The same thing happens every year tigers fans and staines like mat036 pump up the tigers and then the blues come out and smash them and POP there goes there bubble.
Tiger fans make the most of the next 24hr, cos the dream will be over shortly.

Is anyone picking Rowe simply for ruck DPP cover @ F8?  The lack of rookie forwards is getting to me..

To cover the Laidler point again, he is clearly in the best 18 when fit and needs to be in for the team structure. Why do you think Ratten was so desperate to get him back into the team for round 1 last year? The year the Blues played their best football was 2011. The back 6 was predominantly made up of Jamison, Henderson, Duigan, Yarran, Laidler and a rotation of guys in that 6th spot. He was the general back their and when you go back and watch those games, he is bringing guys calling guys into positions, telling guys to clog up which space. He and Scotland would pretty much take a wing each, and control the players in front of them while sitting a kick behind the ball. My view on the NAB is this. It is to get run into players legs before round 1 and for rookies to show what they have. Laidler only needed to go out there and get some match fitness. His NAB form means nothing. If he is fit, he should have been a certain starter. Obviously he is fit or he would not have been named an emergency. He can play on a number of type of guys, tall or small, while also zoning off them, setting up the back half and orchestrating the counter attack. Watching the defense play with and without him is like watching two different teams. You can say Duigan can fill that role, but he can't. He does not have the height to play on a resting ruck. Honestly, Laidler doesn't either but he does play he role well.

And in response to both of you now in terms of the start. Who would you say is the higher quality opposition, Richmond or Collingwood? One has constantly been in the top 4 and have improved their roster with solid pickups in the off season, the other struggled to make the 8 for the better part of a decade. Ratten coached brilliantly the second game against the Pies and they were able to come away with the win against the odds. If the Cats game was at the G they would slaughter them, Carlton have historically been bad at Etihad against mediocre opposition let alone good teams. They matched up well against Geelong with their outside leg pace, but on the smaller ground that does nothing. You are able to close out those runners a lot easier which is why they struggle. West Coast have their own problems at the moment but Perth is a fortress for them. For any team to go over and win it is tough. Adelaide is probably the most 'winnable' of those games, but it is very realistic to be looking at an 0-4 start before playing them. To think otherwise is just naive. You need to look at where this team finished on the ladder last year. The talent was their, injuries struck, they were expected to finish top 4 and failed miserably in the end. However the teams they are playing are not Gold Coast, Bulldogs and GWS. They are quality opposition in their own right. If they came out of that at 3-2 I would be extremely happy.

I have Karnezis, Varcoe and JJK. Was hoping to drop Varcoe to Petterd to free up some cash with Stevie J now out for an extended period of time. Might have to go to Byrnes now as bad as the thought is. At least he will only be on my bench with a lack of forward rookies and insurance for Leuenberger (can switch Cox and Rowe). I for some stupid reason am still going to hold on to him.

Bwahaha, that is funny, actually read what I write first. You do realise I am a Carlton supporter you muppet. Am I hoping they smash the Tigers, yeah of course, but if they lose round 1, there is a very real chance they go 0-4 before playing Adelaide and you need to get your head out of your ass if you don't see it.

ubeaut

Wow I clicked on this to read about Rowe Knights and Petterd! U guys crack me up ;D
