Over on bigfooty a poster has confirmed that Luke Brown has been cleared of serious injury.

"Scans have cleared Brown. They believe it's bruising and might be ok against Brisbane"

Hey Hippo,

Mate, my backs are my weakest line, but it's something I do most years if there is enough cheaper talent in defence.

I have currently Goddard, Gibbs, Armstrong, Brown, Goodes, Pittard, Stevenson, and Terlich.

there are also Vlastuin, Colcohoun, Docherty as other options, and i think there were not really many standout back premiums, although i would have liked to go with Daniel pierce after his game last night.  An upgrade down the track perhaps.

Some will probably say I need another premium back, but i've loaded up with good fwds, due to a lack of rookie fwds.

There were plenty of breakouts in the mids with Fyfe, Rich, Mundy, and Moloney, and I couldn't overlook these guys, so i played all four.  It's a different strategy than the standard, some may like it some may not.  A bit left field perhaps, but sometimes the SC rule book just gets tossed out the window.

Hippo

i like it and its similar to me with the only dif in the backs being i have Vlastuin instead of Armstrong.

i think each yr you play around the rookies with a balance of a strong mid

Sc rules change every year you just need to have a good eye to try and see what they are. Really my only rule for SC is pick running mids in your fwd line bar Franklin, who i haven't got again anyway.

it was indeed hard to split Fyfe and Mundy and very hard to overlook Maloney, cudos to you for  going all 3 three and Rich, ican see how you could stretch out these guys to m7 with 4 cheaper guns.

i ended up going Mundy and Maloney as i just couldn't drop 1 of the 4 mid rookies, using the same thinking as you have with the guys mentioned. Maloney is great value although i took out my smokey in Suban to get him in and got the 6 back rookies... this one hurts a little as he did what i thought he would do last night - ala Maloney should be just as good if not better

good luck

Cheers Hippo,

When I went with this strategy, I second guessed myself at first as to if i was doing the right thing or not, but it's great to see someone else with a similar viewpoint.

I couldn't spilt Mundy and Fyfe, so i went with both, but I think you have gone with the right one in Mundy.  His clearance work at stoppages is very good and his disposal is better than Fyfes, so if Mundy can stay injury free, he looks like being a very good pick up for us.

Good luck to you too also Hippo, and look forward to chatting throughout the year about who we should upgrade in defence when the time is right.

Oh awesome! Really didn't want to use a trade already!

Great news for the Crows and the Rocks ;D  need him playing, he'll work into games more as he plays

If only the stat gurus get all of his tackles in there ::)

Considering Davey went nuts after he injured himself, I am pretty sure he does not have to worry about his job security.
