The man i'm talking about is Buddy Franklin!!! I've been scrolling through all the info i can find about the practice matches last weekend and i came across something quite interesting! It is a video of Franklin's goals on the weekend, the first is a great goal on the run, but its the other two i'm really interested in! They show him taking two set shots and it looks as though he has adopted a new kicking technique which sees him a lot more crouch over and a lot closer to the ball. If this was to make him a more accurate kick then expect heaps more of those monster scores! It happens all the time when Buddy scores a 120 with 3 goals 4/5 behinds, but imagine if he could kick straight! He would turn those into massive tonnes!

Its been well documented over the Hawks site that the inclusion of Lake has been big for Franklin as he has been working one on one with him improving his contested mark. This has already been shown with some massive contested grabs in the NAB, from memory he had a few great ones against Richmond. If this could continue you will see him get a lot more +6's, instead of a crappy dropped mark. And then once its taken he then could go on and kick the goal which would be another 11 points added to his score. Hopefully for us SC'ers and Hawks fans these two changes in Franklin's game will seem him kick a lot more and bigger bags which will result in some huge SC scores

Good pick up Hawkers. Didn't notice the new kicking action. Looks heaps more compact. I'm not ballsy enough not to start with him.

What about the fact he has held off contract talks until the end of the season? Last two guys in recent memory that did that had down seasons in Goddard and Cloke. That is what has me sitting on the fence with Buddy right now.

I honestly think with the contract and Hawthorn's premiership window closing, He is in for a big year! With Cloke he was a big chance to leaving Collingwood where as IMO there is a 95% chance Buddy will stay. Goddard didn't really have a bad season considering how poor St Kilda was. I know your sitting on the fence but i think i have something that could push you off it and onto Buddy's side:

Goddards season was a disappointment from what was expected of him. Like compare his numbers to Deledio. They were expected to be of similar scoring ability last season.

I watched that game and had him in my side when it happened. It was a great result but he also missed a ton of games with his hamstring and has missed games through suspension in the past. To be able to free up the cash at the start of the season to use elsewhere I am thinking it could be extremely valuable, especially with the questions over him in a contract year. Then again he could explode for 200 in a round and I not have him in my team that week.

Given Buddy's fixtures, I won't be starting him in any formats.

I do think he can average 115+ sc, but he is a player with yo-yo scoring so you can always buy him cheap at some point. He was averaging <115 sc for most of the season until he smashed out 237 SC against North Melbourne in Rnd 10.

He wasn't even a lock last season, even with his improvement.

Yes I agree - It' the games he misses as well. A year or two ago ROK outscored Buddy over the season because he played every game where as Buddy played 18 or something.Not likely to smash any huge scores early, so it's a calculated risk leaving him out.
