My forward line for the minute is Franklin,Bartell,Rockliff,Bolton,Karny and McCaffer. I have noticed a few people not starting with Buddy is there any reason for this? He really is a gun. So I keep the man who is close to one of my first picks or am I better of starting the likes of Zorko or Robbo and getting him later?? Thoughts please!

Jukes

If he didn't get that bag of 13 he averaged 94.

If you take away his largest score and his lowest score he only averaged 95.

If you think he can kick 13 again this season, put him in. If you're sensible and doubt it, leave him out.

I can only see him averaging 96-98, leaving him behind blokes like Rocky, Robbo, Zorko, Bartel and Stevie J, all of whom are cheaper.

Not a bad pick at all, will still be a handy average, but not as good as those other blokes I mentioned imo when taking into account scoring potential and value.

I've posted this about 10 times... but here goes again. It's all about the likelihood that Buddy will get another 200. When people do statistics in real life, there are things called outliers. The chances of anyone, Buddy included, of getting 200 in the next decade is slim.

So...

If you take out his 200 as an outlier, he averaged... 94 in 2012. That's less than Pav. His next highest score was 130 in Rnd 1.
In 2011, his highest score was 144.
In 2012, he had 6 scores below 80, and one 81.

So what I'm saying is, if you do pick Buddy, don't expect any 150+, or even 130+, scores in 2013. He isn't God.

And yet in 2011 he averaged 102, in 2010 he averaged 99. His 101 average last year was not an aberration due to a single game. Buddy kicks bags. Every year.
He is still also only 26. Should just about be reaching his prime now. Ignore him at your peril.

KingJB

That was more my thinking, that he has a tough start and Zorks is easy in comparison! I'm definitely not ignoring him but could possibly see myself filling my fwd with mids by years end like a SJ and Daisy to finish it off or something like that. Now that we have 2 trades a week the worst case scenario is you take the punt then sideways trade if it doesn't work and lose no sleep over it.

But it exactly was! If it weren't for that game, he would've had a relatively crap season, and we'd currently be wondering whether he could get back to his great heights!

A players ceiling still has to be considered...

+ his average dropped substantially due to his injury as well- before he got injured he was averaged like 107 ppg

GM

So Stewy & Jukesy won't have Buddy in their Teams this year.Ok.
Tbh facts are facts and what ifs are plain useless imo.
We all give opinions based on our own selections and thoughts.
Everyone can dig up stats for their opinions being + or -'s.
When it comes to decisions on premos i will just stick with the facts.
So,King go with your gut feeling.

people seem to ignore the 2 red vest games (both 70+ when subbed out early in second half too) due to the hamstring out of convenience to convince themselves not to pick Buddy.

He'll be a good POD this year.

Probably fair enough. And I will have Buddy in my team, I'll just wait until his price drops a bit  ;D

Im still 50/50 on starting him, my biggest concern not starting him will not being too greedy with his price.
Because of his huge ceiling i can see some getting caught ouy, hoping to save a few extra grand and bang another 160+ score

Fair enough aswell mate that was my initial thoughts but with no SJ or Thomas available i will take him now.
Sometimes we can over analyse things and tend to look away from the obvious.I know i do. :)

Buddy's highest score is his 200, his next highest is 144. HE DOESN'T GET 160+ SCORES!!!

Ricochet

I won't start Buddy because of his draw but can't believe it when people say that the best forward in the competition won't kick another 10+ goals bag (or go close to 200 DT points).
You cannot take giant scores out a players average to prove your point... because he actually did score that big and probably will again. I could say... take away his below 80 scores because he was feeling a bit tired on those days :p

He is only 26 this year... we have not seen the best of Buddy Franklin.
