Just to note,

- Demons had a lot of their spine out (Key forwards and key backs).

- Watts played across half back, like he has the whole pre-season. (I worry if he is being tagged, what effect it will have as even though he has put on muscle this pre-season, he still avoid body on body contact. Dunn and Watts will both play this role, so i gather that one of them will cop the forward tag)

- Matt Jones has played all pre-season games, bar one of the round robin ones.

- I still don't think Matt Jones imo will make the round 1 team, possible sub though.

I know Clarke and Trengove didnt play but who else was out?

How did Jones score in other games? I havent noticed him at all to be honest.

And yeah I wouldnt be going near Watts. He will score well against the lower sides and do nothing against the better sides

- Frawley, Dunn, Viney, Trengove, Clark, Dawes, Blease, Kent, McDonald, Nicholson, Davey, Jetta and Bail were a few of the ones missing, not all are majorly important but still.

- Scored ok, nothing too special. Today obvious his standout game. Goes unnoticed in games as an in and under type.

- Well.. Watts is still up in the air for me, i am yet to see how a tag would effect him with his height, body type and build. I personally think he will be affected more so (fantasy wise) later in the season than earlier, mainly by teams who play a forward tagger.

Broughton scored 40 SuperCoach points from 91% TOG  :'(

Yeah he was locked until the NAB, has done shower all in it!
I'm so glad he didn't suck me in like he did last year.
Thanks Broughts

Big Mac

Regarding Jones, I doubt Melbourne would have drafted a 25 year old midfielder, just so he can play in the VFL. He was drafted to play, just at Terlich was.

Colliwobblers

agree BigMac, think Jones could be this sesons Dees magner, but better

Bones Bombers

All teams need depth these days to allow some resting and cover injuries. Not every player can play seniors, regardless of age.

DoctorRush

Am I right in thinking this was Jones' first pre-season game?

no he has played them all

49 in nab 3 - tog 75%

43 in nab 2 - tog 79%

19 in nab 1 - tog 82% - one of the two games shortened versions - which nab 2 and 3 were shortened versions also keep in mind.

nothing spectacular but not too bad either - the point - they are playing him full games....

Thanks
I searched him on here but only stats for one game.
It's between him and Crouch for my last bench spot I reckon

What i want to know is, goes Viney have better JS (than Jones) for the 1st 6-8, or will Jones be given a couple months to perform b4 being dropped for some younger blood? Jones would be my 1st slaughter under these conditions.

you'd think the younger kid would be given the time in the vfl to get match fitness? where jones has been there done that bigger stronger body.... throw jones in early and when viney starts to tear the vfl apart in he comes?

not sure but remember couch last season he destroyed in the VFL but he only got 3 afl games all season after dominating in the VFL all season.

maybe they are clowns - bloke is a gun. but here's the thing he is also 24..... got 9 tackles in his afl debut game. averaged 111 SC points per game for the season at casey ranked #1 at the club.

but not good enough for a gig in the 2012 Melbourne line-up  :o  pick a melbourne rook at your own peril, the club/coach is a lunatic

or tanking  :-X

- Jones was drafted to create competition for spots, and due to him having the capabilities to play. He is not assured games, just cause he was drafted as a mature ager. The fact that they have played him in every game suggests that Neeld is still looking at him, as if he was out of the squad (rested) for a game or two in Nab, it would suggest he was either (a). Definitely in the team or (b). Definitely out of the team

- Viney has more JS, the way he has gone about training and games has been nothing short of remarkable, however he will have the occassional rests during the year.

- Coach is in no way a lunatic, neither is the club. Cannot be based on that one decision, Neeld (imo) will be a very very good coach and has a great plan for Melbourne. Couch is/was a terrible kick at times last season, of which that and the fact he did not care whether he played AFL or not were the main reasons Neeld and co. left him out. I'm very very pleased about what they did, why play a player who is not pushing the limits trying to achieve the maxiumu possible out of himself week in week out, over someone that is?

Good point regarding Watts.  Fixtures are great early on, so with 30 trades probably best to get him early before other teams give him more attention.

Cheers CS. Yeah definitely, if they haven't already realized how good a kick Watts is, they will soon.
