With the news that Berger is unlikely to play round 1, what are people now doing with their rucks?

I feel like I have no choice other than to go for a set and forget combo now.

Who will you have as R1/R2?

colmullet

decided to dump Luey....to much uncertainty there for mine

running McEvoy and Jacobs at the moment

Thinking about bringing in Kreuzer, hopefully he's over injuries and dominates

I might grab one premium type.

Obviously 2 rookies on the bench (one with DPP)

That leaves me with one gaping great hole at R2.

Any thoughts on the following?

R2 will become NicNat at some stage (probably sooner than later now).

So, get an underpriced R2 to make money short term with a view to getting NicNat in after about 4 - 6 rounds when my R2 has peaked in terms of cash cow-ness.

As insurance, I have Cox as F2 (Buddy is a must) and will now swap say, Walker out for either Roughead or Ryder giving more flexibility if NicNat's return is delayed or my spec R2 flops.

Looks good on paper.

I actually traded Leuy to another ruck on the weekend and am running this player with Maric and Cox in the rucks as backup in case the ruck doesn't work out.

As a set and forget combo?
What average are you expecting from them?

Not set and forget really, Griffin only there until Leuy returns (and has played 2 games). Giles a set and forget? Yes

Giles 95-110, while Griffin (while i have him) possibly a 95+

Im not so sure on either. Griffen will score well while Sandi is out but that might only be the first month of the season.
Giles was fantastic last season but he did benefit from being able to take the ruck by himself with Brogan being injured most of the season

Maric+Z.Smith my current combo with Cox up forward very happy with it

Agree on both fronts. Ideally Griffin will be rucking solo (with Clarke in the team too) for the first month, with Leuy playing 1 or two games (with no other set backs). I'd also assume that Brogan wont be used often, but only in short periods in the ruck (will probably fill holes down back and up forward), added to this is that Giles usually kicks goals when forward so a bit of time up there wont be bad at all.

I would prefer 2 KPP rucks to end up in R1 and R2 and keep NicNat as a Forward Upgrade. I assume you'll always have Rowe to save the day. I think that there are more KKP rucks that will break into the 110+ club than KPP fowards. And the Top 6 Fwds by years end will be saturated with F/R from the likes of NicNat, Ryder, Cox, Rough (with the right role) then you have Buddy (obviously) and then favorites like  Walker and Rocky. Not a lot of confidence in the like of Pav, Chap and the old guard going another year into the 110's.

The obvious choices with this strat are ending up with 2 of Maric, MacEvoy and Jacobs (and Sandi if he comes back firing). But it may be that some1 new hits the 110+ average (Giles or Minson for example) like Maric did last year to give you even more depth of choice.

Of coarse you could always use NicNat as a place holder in Ruck (as your priority upgrade) and later slaughter a Fwd Cow and move NN there to buy your R2 Keeper.

Luey and Currie for me with Daw and Rowe (DPP) on the bench.
I have Cox up forward in case the none of the three rookie rucks work out so it is my cover ..

If Luey doesn't get up i may go Longer as a fill in until Luey has played three games.
He was ok on the weekend and had 16 hit outs ... i only want him to average 50 ish so i think he can do that and maybe even make me a little money.

Ricochet

Cox at F1, Mummy at R1 and at R2 either Stefan, Lobbe or if i really tighten up some rookies then Bellchambers.
