BEST 18 scoring during bye rounds

I always thought it meant during the bye rounds,  instead of 22 there would be 18 scoring players, cutting one on field player for each position, but it's actually just the 18 best scoring players no matter what position. You guys probably already know this, but just sharing it with you guys just incase you were like me and didn't know
QuoteBYE ROUNDS - 'Best 18' Scoring - to better-reflect the actual competition, during the multi-bye Rounds 11, 12 and 13, you'll score from your best 18 players only in any position, from your selected, on-field Starting 22. You'll still need to ensure that your best available players are in your starting 22 line-up.

Knew this JR but you still have to do some planning to ensure that you have 18 best players on the ground.  Round 11 and Round 13 appear to be the problematic areas.

To explain you have 3 have  Defenders with Round 13 bye with only 2 emergencies one has to remain on the field.
You also have 3 Mids with the Round 13 bye again 1 has to remain on field.

This means that you will have only 20 available players to  select your best 18 from. It is also possible you may still have a rookie or 2 with the Round 13 bye so choice may decrease further.

Know the common view is not worrying about byes because of the 18 best on field but as can be seen you need a little planning to maximise during the byes and perhaps gain on others during the byes.

Hi guys,

Just after some clarification regarding bye rounds. Obviously our score comes from our top 18 players however I just want to double check on the makeup of these 18 before I trade players in to my team from next week onwards.

Will we choose our team as per normal with a squad made up of 6 defenders, 8 mids, 2 rucks and six forwards and we get the best 18 of these 22 (if we are well prepared enough to have 22 starters). Or alternatively will we be able to nominate 22 players as our squad from any position. For example if you had ten midfielders available in round 12 could they all go towards our squad of 18.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before. There has been a lot of talk surrounding the multi byes however I just wanted to ensure I don't get caught out as navigating the byes will be a massive factor in where one finishes for 2013.

Thank in advance!

Go Paddy

I know that this question has been addressed in the above two posts. I'm just a little confused as to which one of the two options is definitely the case. I'm looking ahead and see myself with a number of round 11 forwards thus would love to get some feedback to ensure the situation is option b rather than option a.

Ringo

My interpretation of the rule is that you will pick your 22 players as normal and the best 18 scores of those 22 will count.  This will allow you to say have 4 mids with the Round 13 bye with 2 as emergency and 2 on the field  still leaves you a possible 20 scoring players from which to take best 18.

So basically strategy should be to ensure you have 18 or more players on the field for each of the bye rounds and will avoid the donut carnage of last year.  With good strategy you may move up the table during the byes.

Thanks Ringo,

I kind of see it panning out the same way. I don't expect the website to change it's format to allow for more than eight midfielders to be selected in any one week. The wording of the rule does not clearly state this to not be the case.

This question may seem irrelevant to most however my forward line currently includes Rocky and Martin. Buddy will be my first upgrade target and with clouds over Nic Nat and Stevie J likely upgrades for me include Cyril and Zorko. At the same time my ideal final midfield would include few if any round eleven players. As such if I was to misinterpret the rule I could get caught out and find myself getting a zero or two depending on luck with injuries/rookie form at the time.

I will follow your advice Ringo. Make sure I have 18 players per round (as best I can) while not going to beserk on loading up one line with players from same bye round. Will sit down and devise a plan. You are definitely right. The bye rounds won't create a winner but they certainly will eliminate thousands of supercoaches from contention. Then again I am sitting at 3500th or so which suggests I am over thinking this way too much however I love the game and would like to finish as high as possible.

Thanks for the reply Ringo. I read fanfooty regularly however don't tend to post as I can't be bothered being called a troll or an imbecile! I truly appreciate the advice.

Good luck for the rest of the season!

Does this mean there wont be a partial lockout ?

and will we still be able to use captaincy loophole ?(i.e. make a non playing player captain in the 22 ?)

Ringo

I believe the Partial lock out will continue as the rules said will apply to all rounds.

CFC 1979

so do i assume if you have more than 18 starters, only the best scoring 18 will count ?

Ringo

That is my interpretation of the rules if you have 22 scoring players named the best 18 scores count.

I never knew this until now  :o Very happy though.  :D

The key to the wording is 'on field' I think.

Obviously emergencies will score if an on field player misses in that position but it would appear you can't use a defender's score for a ruck who doesn't play.

felsty

you sure doctor? i got told that its your best 18 regardless of them being on the pine etc.

if you have all round 11 players in your forwards and rucks out, but every single one of your mids and backs are playing then that is 18 players and all of their scores would count..

clarification once more..

kilbluff1985

yeah i think it's any players from any position make up the total 18

Ringo

Here is the rule from Herald Sun and it is explicit that it is the best 18 scores for your starting 22.  So does not inclde emergencies.
