Onya GB the blokes needs to be shown the door. Cant stand the arrogant twit. On a side note can anyone tell me whats wrong with rotations and why there has to be a cap on them. I don't get it, surely capping rotations will be to the detriment of a players health injury wise. Whats his problem with them i just don't get it.

He decided in his infinite wisdom that players were running into each other too hard and collision injuries needed to be stopped even though they've been happening since day dot.
So the theory is by capping rotations less players will get to the contest late on and the impacts will be less as they won't be sprinting to get there. Read: it's bad for viewing on tv when players have blood flowing freely and I get lots more money in my pay packet if the tv rights deal goes up even more.

Nothing wrong with it and why would there be? :o

I've set up a page on facebook: *Demetriou must go*! I don't know much about making it look pretty or getting likes on it, it's there in its infancy if anyone wants to give it a thumbs up. I'm pretty sure we could get 100,000+ if the word gets out, is there anyone that actually likes this guy?

I changed it from Andrew Demetriou must go, to just Demetriou must go. This is because it appeared on my page as 'likes Andrew Demetriou...* not a good look that.

3 likes in the first hour ntb. :D

That's the kind of comment id expect him to blurt out, i would of thought fatigue would cause more injuries through getting to contests late, mistakes through fatigue in tackling etc. That's just my thoughts. Good onya for starting the FB thread i could rant for hours about the ridiculous things he does and says but i don't want to sidetrack the thread. :(

for the record, this is a complete load of shower.

firstly, we don't really need buddy enough to risk the entire afl community wanting to murder us in our sleep.

secondly, the afl wouldn't compromise themselves that way- if something like this did happen, I reckon it's entirely possible that we would see teams boycotting in the following season.

that being said, if franklin was enticed to GWS, I can completely see the logic for applying as an ambassador... he mightn't get it, but it's completely logical, he's one of the biggest names in the footy world, and he's a beast of a player, having him at the giants would definitely attract more supporter to AFL.

That being said, it would have to go in that order: first franklin gets recruited, then they apply for him as ambassador... remember, he's a restricted free agent, so in that scenario giants have to have already had him sign a contract for more money than the hawks were willing to part with. Franklin would know that becoming an ambassador wouldn't be a certainty, so I really doubt that, when it comes down to it, it would really factor in that heavily.

Like if GWS offered him 1.1 million a year paid out of our salary cap, which hawthorn couldnt afford, so he signed with the giants. After which they'd apply to see if he could be classified as an ambassador. It's not really giving the giants any extra preferential treatment- that's exactly how it would go down, and a scenario any club could potentially use if they could move around enough cash.

As for whether other clubs should be allowed similar concessions for ambassadors: the reason why the afl does it is to expand the game... there aren't many AFL followers in sydney, even though it makes up like 1/4 of australias population, so having someone like buddy drawing crowds and supports in sydney is far more valuable than having him move to a victorian club, where afl is so entrenched. It's n ot really a bonus for the giants themselves, it's the AFL paying the player because they're furthering the game, it's pretty much independent of the team they play for.

that's the logic I follow anyway... by that, can players at sydney, brisbane etc. apply to be ambassadors?

basically, there's heaps of reasons to hack on demetriou. Because some bs journo made this up though, is not one of them.

I hear Columbia are the next target for Andrew and Taylor Walker is offered a 25 million dollar contract for 5 years to attract supporters in South America to the team

They will be able to pick any players they want from any AFL team and pay them anything as they have a living allounce

They will be able to sign 12 yr olds and trade them to who ever but they will end up only trading for more teenagers instead of experienced players, and will do so for years

Ziplock

mate, I was just saying that the free agency is open slather: for giants to get buddy to start with they have to out bid hawthorn.

Ziplock

and nobody wants walker, he's a prick.

tbagrocks

Nah he's a top bloke ;)  would have a beer with anyone!

Bascally having a go at the AFL and the idiot in charge

Ziplock

this really isn't the place for that though: if you want to complain about him, then go for it... but doing so here makes it seem like one retarded journos comments were correct, which they werent :P

I notice Demetriou has come out and said this is media bashing at no point in the interview with Mark Robinson did either of them mention Buddy. Still the fact that these sort of payments were made possible in the first place still gets my back up as no Victorian club is eligible for them. In this day and age of pro sport all I want to see is a fair playing field for all clubs no matter where they are or how many members they have.
I'm sure any old Fitzroy supporters would be rather annoyed at these new clubs getting so much charity, while 17 years ago they were effectively put down by the AFL.

Ziplock

the ambassador thing is like a bonus, for doing work for the afl, rather than an incentive. It's pretty hard to draw large numbers of supporters to the game (to a club maybe, but not to the sport itself), in the state where it's already the no.1 sport by a massive amount.

why would the afl pay someone who isn't doing and physically can't do the job the payment is intended for?

(enter calls on demetriou :P )

tbagrocks

I can totally see the reason behind giving Buddy free to GWS, but would never support it why? The game doesn't need to grow, anyone see the last two grand finals?

We don't care if Sydney doesn't support the sport, Andrew just want bigger crowds and following because he likes money

they're not giving buddy for free... it's free agency, it's a bidding war basically.

If sydney supports the sport, you've just dropped another 25% volume of afl supporters... that's a significant increase to the talent pool, that's 25% more abletts, franklins, riolis, glass's that we have coming into the  sport. It'll signifcantly improve the quality of the game.

Yeah, the afl wants to make money... if it doesn't make money, the players dont get paid, and if the players dont get paid, they'll take other full time jobs. When it comes down to it, the afl is a buisness.
