With the plethora of rookies in the backline can we consider going with a 3 premo defence??
Currently got Goddard, Gibbs, Hartlett, Vlastuin, Pittard, Goodes (Stevenson L.Brown/Terlich)

pommyadam

you can go with whatever you choose
i'm going 4 DEF premos, but then my mids are light with the other lines stacked (somewhat)

Adamant

Not weak at all, with the quality rooks down back and nothing up forward, the 3 premo backline is the way to go IMO.

My backline is identical to yours, only I've got Birch over Hartlett for a bit of stability. Still considering HH/Hepp/Duffman though...

Just today I did the exact same thing. Went Hanley to L Brown and was able to make enough money to go Viney to Swan. Much happier atm. This was in SC though.

Never been a fan of stacking the backs.

Plenty of rookie options there this year, backs don't score as well as the mids and the pseudo fwd player options. VS gave us more mids spots, so why not fill up there.  8)

Thanks guys

With Embley's injury yesterday I'm not willing to take the risk on him even if he plays RD 1. Rather than Trading Embley to a rookie, I thought I'd trade Hep D to Terlich then upgrade Embley to Boyd.

Still gotta a problem with my FWD line though :( I could pick 2 mid-pricers for F5 and F6 but I think Macaffer if named will score higher than any MP between 230-250k (Byrnes, Knights, Karnezis, Varcoe etc). So I want Macaffer at F6 but then its a struggle to find 2 more rookies. Dont want someone like Varcoe on the bench though. In a bit of a pickle in what to do  :-\

I think a 3 premo backline is fine. I don't think alot of the rookie backs will score heavily but have really good JS and there aren't any back premo's (apart from Gibbs and Goddard) screaming out to be picked.

Yeah, then you can take your pick out of Grimes, Stanley, H.H ect. Makes the decision very hard, and pivotal.

I don't see Mac going anymore than 70 TBH.

Karnezis averaged 26 touches going 30+ 7 times last year in the 2's.  ;)

Yeh I like the look of Karnezis. I think he has the higher scoring potential then the other midpricers just maybe not the JS.

Jukes

I'd say like 40% of sides are going with 3 premo backs, so not weak at all :P

I had God/Gibbs/Hepp for ages until just recently when I upgraded a rook to Grimes then down to Hartlett.

I reckon his JS has gone through the roof after two good NAB outings.  ;)

Yeah don't mind Karnezis, think he may go around an 80 avg. Got him at F5 but then need another mid-pricer.

How bout this for a strategy?? I'm starting with Bird at F4 because of his dream start. Have Karnezis F5, Caff F6 with Patton and Neade on the pine. The reason I mention Patton is because after RD 4/5 I'll be looking to trade Bird to Stevie J. If Patton can rise minimum 50k in 2-3 price rises (should do it) then I could offload him to Staker (should be playing round this time). Gain the 100k and I'm confident Bird will be within 100k of Stevie J.

Risky strategy because it requires Bird and Patton to rise in price, Stevie J to decrease in price and for Staker to have started playing. But with the selection headache I'm in atm it could work out alright. Thoughts??

Artax

Need everything to go your way but do think Bird could start really well. Am starting with Jack in the mids for the same reason.
