THE ODDS of Mark Blicavs making a shock debut in Geelong's round one blockbuster against Hawthorn have shortened dramatically after he held his own against Adelaide star Sam Jacobs on Saturday.

The former steeplechaser collected eight possessions, won 14 hit-outs, took three marks and kicked a goal in the Cats' 63-point demolition of the Crows at Simonds Stadium.

Pity he is not listed as a ruck

turry17

Does seem a little odd his listed as a mid

Any chance they can alter it?

They possibly could. At 198cm the only work the will do in the middle is rucking.

If he does get listed as a ruck he might be worth a look, but not if he remains a mid only

Yeah I wouldn't go near him as a mid, far better options, but as a ruckmen, yes.
So are all of HMac, West, Simpson and Vardy injured?

hmac, west, simpson are all injured, subsequently geelong are being super cautious with vardy.

Geelong seems to be having no luck with the rucks at the moment!

If he does get some early games and a few price rises it could be handy, then downgrade him to someone like Grundy if he gets some games later on

Ziplock

they might change him to a ruck.

Having a 198cm player listed purely as a mid is bizarre. That being said

looking at that, he clearly didnt do a lot of ruck work (considering he only had 3 HO over 4 games, considering last night he got 14 HO in one game against one of the best AFL ruckmen.

Looking at his stats he probs should have been named F/M

or R/M :P

The F.A.R.K.

Even if he plays it will be as a sub. Pods, Vardy are still ahead of him in ruckwork

Hagebear

I just don't think he'll play enough early games to be worth it. As soon as any of Geelongs rucks are fit he'll b the first to make way.

Pods is too small to do much rucking...

he'll be out though as soon as any of the other rucks are fit.

Pods has rucked before

Vardy as no.1 pods as a back up when vardy needs a rest

The change in Blicavs's bodyshape over the last year has been dramatic.. Hes listed here on FF as weighing just 78kg (start of lastyear i assume). Yet seeing him yesterday play against Adelaide its plain to see his transformation from olympic steeplechase hopeful to an AFL footballer is well on the way.. On the cats website he is now listed as 95kgs.  Still a work in progress.. but may see some ruck work early imo.

AndyJ

The other thing in Blicavs's favor is the new ruck rule.. Giving players like NicNat the ability to use his leap around the ground and avoiding the straight out wrestle. Blicavs being a steeplechaser has a fantastic leap also.

pommyadam

yes, he'd be a good option for the cats (and as a ruck)
but as a mid, no chance
