Well done Brissy! And thankyou!!! now we don't have to read about how Carlton will win the flag and how malthouse will take them to a flag every day for the next 2 weeks in the paper. Great stuff :D
P.s Merrett isn't a forwards ass haha he kicked 7 against gws. He is 10 times the player down back.
Brissy the best team of the pre season deserved the win, nicely done. Now hurry up round 1!

As a Carlton supporter, I am calling it now, if the Tigers win round 1, Carlton will start the season 0-5.

Also another question for the Brisbane supporters. What is the go with Lisle? Only played one of the NAB games that I saw and was picked up to replace Mitch Clark. Has he not progressed as the club hoped? Was that also one of the reasons to bring Stef Martin in?

strikes91

lisle is slow and bulky, martin showed tonight how agile he is. guaranteed for round 1

Mat0369

The problem with Martin is that he needed to be in the ruck to thrive. He would use his agility on opposing rucks to burn them around the ground. As a pinch hitting ruck playing predominantly forward I am not to sure how he will go as the season progresses. It was one of the main reasons he was in and out of the Demons line up. If Jamar was out and he was the sole ruck he would play well. In the other cases he has struggled. But he did look good against the Pies last week (apart from a few errant kicks) and looked alright again tonight.

The question was more not about Martin about about Lisle

Ringo

Lisle has not grasped the opportunities to the extent that Cornelius and Martin have in the pre-season.  Was even behind Paparone imo in the intra club trial as well,  With Cornelius having a shocker last night he may come under some consideration  but think Cornbag will be given another chance,
If Cornbag struggles again then maybe Lisle will get an opportunity but would have to fight with Paparone.

GM

Really impressed with Karnezis Ringo.Just kept running all night.Could of dropped his head when ran into fwd 50 and kicked straight to opposition but just forgot about it and kept presenting himself as a running option.A great example for guys on the fringe to go back and get better.I hope he continues his form into the season.
Zorko was great and Hanley was great out of defense.I am not sure if he will get as much freedom in the season proper.
Great win by the Lions with a place in the eight not out of the question.

Ringo I would like to ask you.. You were a bit sceptical of getting Zorko in your supercoach side due to a role change but have you seen enough to suggest he will score well regardless?

My thoughts from last night but many of you would have watched and formed own opinions:

Well done to the boys - (Should have doubled up on the $5.18 offered for Brisbane at half time). Great defence by the Team Carlton to just 9 points in the second term. Only issue with game was the lopsided free kick count 29 - 16 in favour of Carlton. It seems OK to scrag Brown all night without penalty but when similar tactics adopted at other end frees were constantly paid.

Congratulations to Daniel Rich on the Shane Tuck Medal although personally I would have had both Zorko and Hanley ahead of him.

Like the game plan with both Hanley and Karnezis running down the wings and floating back to help the back 6.

Any hope of keeping Lions players secret for POD probably went out the door last night.

Daniel Merrett whilst not fantasy relevant showed he is the best spoiler in the game. (Wouldn't it be great if Champion Data rewarded spoils as he would come into contention).
Hanley again showed why he will be a sound option as a defender in SC this year especially as he will run up the ground. Had a 90% Disposal effeciency as well.
Karnezis after a somewhat shaky start with a couple of poor disposals again showed he represents great value at his price and will be a lock at that price in most forward lines. Disposal efficiency ended up a respectable 81%. Subbed out in third quarter.
Moloney again showed why he was brought to Brisbane with 11 clearances for the match 6 of which were in first quarter, Will be a consideration for M5 in teams and worth it.  He was brought to Brisbane to lift clearances (we were ranked 16th in the competition last year in clearances)  and have not lost clearances in NAB cup,  Won the clearances 49 - 39 last night.
Rich is starting to fulfill the promise he showed in winning the rising star award. Copped the Carazzo tag last night and performed reasonably culminating in the Shane Tuck medal. Won 9 clearances as well.
Zorko continues to perform at the elite level and shows no signs of second year syndrome. Showed forward pressure with 5 tackles. Most probably now considering him a must and alternative to Rocky.
Josh Green the other small forward with Zorko - used his speed a couple of times to win free kicks. Awkwardly priced Fantasy wise though.
Brownie is slowly working himself into the season probably not value at $418k though. Green will benefit from his strong presenting.
Cornelius was the only disappointment of the night failing to maintain the standard set in previous weeks. Will be given another chance I suspect.

Lions Round 1 Team as I see it
FB: Elliot Yeo, Daniel Merrett, Joel Patfull
HB: Mitchell Golby, Matt Maguire, Jed Adcock
C: Patrick Karnezis, Tom Rockliff, Pearce Hanley
HF: Dayne Dorko, Stefan Martin, Rowan Bewick
FF: Ashley McGrath, Jonathan Brown,Joshua Green
Fol: Matthew Leuenberger, Brent Moloney, Daniel Rich
Int: Andrew Raines, Claye Beams, Aaron Cornelius
Sub: Sam Docherty.

Thing to remember is Brisbane have a very soft first 6 matches only facing Adelaide at the Gabba and Sydney in Sydney so worth the punt on Lions players to gain cash and trade after Round 6 unless keeping,

My scepticism is going Quinney.  In the Nab cup he seems to be finding the ball quite a lot despite role change. Only concern is he is still to subject his body to a full season so just need to watch that.  Showed what he is a capable of last night although racked up quite a few of the possies in junk time.
Considering now in my SC Team.  Thinking of going Buddy to Zorks and using money elsewhere,

I agree with the round 1 team here Ringo. Anymore news on burger?

Gun is too mild a word - BAZOOKA

He was everywhere, down back up fwd on the wing. Started pretty slow too imo for his 130  :o

round 1 team looks pretty damn good just need that fwd line to stand up TALLER and STRONGER

Not an easy draw but if they keep the run on could be 4 and 1 after first 5? SHOULD BE - North the main challenge after the Crows in the first 5.

then Sydney and Weagles  :-\  but the Lions go alright against the Weagles now don't they

BB67th

Good write up Ringo. It seems that Karnezis has found his way into my team now and maybe Zorko will be replacing Rockliff after he didn't really show too much last night.

Excellent write-up. Only thing I think you forgot is Golby - might miss round 1 after his hit on Murph?

Am i missing something? Where is redden??

Ringo

It is easy to forget when you are trying to look at a couple of screens - Reddan would take Karnezis place in centre Karnezis would take McGrath's spot and McGrath and Cornelius would fight for the final spot.

May change with Golby's little indiscretion though.

BB67th

I don't think Golby's punch was with enough force to warrant a suspension. Perhaps a reprimand.
