Guess if Hanley is going to play on a wing it opens a spot, maybe dare I say it Golby is worth getting on, but Pearce needs to be considered too, problem is there is a hand full of backs to consider :-[  Karny is going to be hard to refuse if named there round one

Fantastic win by the boys tonight. Looking forward to a great season of football.

Bit tired atm will do a write up in the morning - Celebrating too hard after the win and got to collect my bet.

Congrats to the boys.

Congrats to the boys.

Congrats Ringo and Lions fans, very happy to see the local team get up, especially against the blues :)

anyone who didn't see this coming is vision impaired, couple of years to go yet but the Lions are most definitely on their way UP.

good game I enjoyed it.

The three R'rs were quite, so good news

Daniel Merrett is hands down the best key defender 1 on 1.

Patfull and Maguire and really under rated.

Spoiling machine. Was in AA contention with Jamo before his back injury a couple of seasons back. The game style reminds me of the Cats in the premiership era and the players are growing in confidence and backing themselves. Also were super in lowering their eyes

Would say we would be a certainty for the 8 this year if we had a cloke, Roughie or similar supporting Brown.  Cornbag suffered when pressure applied tonight was hoping he would stand up but the one real disappointment for the night.

Ringo if you were Vossy were would you play Merrett

As a defender his one of the best in the competition but as a forward he takes maybe the oppositions best defender and capable of kicking a bag.

Colliwobblers

You didn't ask me Noz, but without Merrett in defence, Carlton would have kicked maybe 8 more goals, and won.

Gun defender, has to be down there, Lions will just need to hope one of their talls stands up soon.

Bombers and Blues and several others in the same boat, have all the pieces of the puzzle except a power forward and decent 2nd tall fwd to take a defender.

On his day Merrett  can kick a bag - and when he kicked 7 last year most of the members nearly fell of their seats as his set kicking for goal is usually a hit and miss affair.

I would continue to play him in defence myself as although serviceable do not think Maguire or Patful can cut it with oppositions No 1 Forward as we seen with Maguire a couple of times last year when Merrett went forward. A Back 6 of Merrett, Maguire Patfull, Yeo, Golby and Rich/Adcock is very sound.

That is the main reason I would leave him back.

The Lions skills tonight were pretty good. Keep that up and a good 2013 is on the cards. Those last couple of top 8 spots will be contested. Didn't have to many Lions in the past this year have 5, 4 without Luey. Liked it. ;)

Noz

Appreciate the input Ringo and of course Colli!  :)

20 spoils is something to marvel at.

Well done Brissy! And thankyou!!! now we don't have to read about how Carlton will win the flag and how malthouse will take them to a flag every day for the next 2 weeks in the paper. Great stuff :D
P.s Merrett isn't a forwards ass haha he kicked 7 against gws. He is 10 times the player down back.
Brissy the best team of the pre season deserved the win, nicely done. Now hurry up round 1!

Noz

Played as the key forward a lot last year and they struggled a bit down back but with no really new emerging power forward coming of age this year he could be used as a swing man again,
