Still no sign of Harwood or Polec :(

Ringo

Karnezis and Beams have probably stepped ahead of Polec who has a slow start to pre-season.

Docherty is probably being given more opportunity to see if he can match form shown in the intra club trial where he was much better than Harwood.  Doc played better last week mainly across the FB line in the absence of Merrett and Patful.  Maybe this week may get to half back role or maybe a run with role which he seems to do well. He totally blanketed Zorko in the intra club trial.

So with Redden & Maguire in & the 2 rooks out that still leaves 27 for rd1.
5 to cut which is good signs for the lions but to me that leaves Karnesis on the edge.
Your thoughts Ringo.

My thoughts on Karnezis is if he has a solid game on Saturday night he will make the final 22.

From the 27 named for Saturday night I see these players missing from Round 1 - Paparone, Yeo/Docherty, Clarke and Micheal who will be replaced by Redden, Lester and Maguire  making the squad of 26. If Black is fit one more to come out and depending on fitness of Berger maybe Longer and if not Longer possibly a choice between McGrath, Banfield, Bewick, Yeo/Docherty or Karnezis.

Really liking our depth this year,

So if the GF is played in Melbourne next week Brisbane get ripped off. They finished first therefore they deserve the home final.

they would have, but the GABBAs being used for cricket atm- not exactly getting ripped off by the afl, just by having their ground unavailable.

Great effort by the boys, looking forward to next week

There's always Metricon.

We knew late yesterday if we won final would be at Etihad.  had hoped fro Metricon with the unavailability of the Gabba but money and attendance figures probably won out. Although only 13000 attended tonights match.  At least the match is to be televised live on free to air as per the agreement.

Does not really upset me as it gives the guys more experience playing in Melbourne where we will have to get 3/4 wins to make the 8.

From tonights match:
With the Heat unlimited interchanges were allowed and Brisbane left out Berger, Banfield and Paparone from selected 27.
Cornelius cemented his place in forwards - Will be interesting to see if Brisbane go with the 3 talls in Brown, Cornbag and Martin.  Small forwards Bewick, Zorko, Green will love the fall.
Karnezis another sound game whilst not outstanding would have done enough to cement his place.
Hanley showed he is on target for another big season.
Rich is shaping up nicely after a couple of disappointing seasons.  Was very instrumental in getting the ball to the Lions forward line.
Rockliff again showed he needs to be a lock in forward line.
Zorko a tad disappointing tonight with only 17 possessions.
Docherty probably just done enough to stay in side for next week.
Golby showing no ill effects with return from injury and another sound game moping up across the half back line.
Brown showed his lack of match fitness and should be the better for the run,  Showed his hardness with a headbut to the behind post - Brown 1 Post 0
Have a sound ruck stocks to back up Berger with Longer, Michael and pinch hitting from Martin.

^^^This. The game should be in Queensland. This is coming from a Carlton supporter. What is the advantage of finishing first if you don't get a home game. Lions are now forced to fly to Melbourne twice in two weeks and have a shortened week. I know it is only NAB but it just smells of BS.

Longer impressed tonight.  Delivered the ball inside forward in one passage where he hit I think it was Martin on the chest. What are the chances of running both Longer and Leuenberger all season? Probably slim with Stef Martin playing deep forward.
