Crocs Feast at Awards Night
Updated Wed August 27, 2014

The KL Crocodiles' 2014 season is far from over with all involved focused on the Grand Final this weekend, but their successful season (thus far) was rewarded on Tuesday night at the 2014 AXV Awards Night.

The most prestigious sporting night in Asia was as glamorous as ever with all clubs, players and coaches on show. In its second year, it is the night for awards such as the Golden Dragon, Wooden Chopstick and the biggest one of all the Colliwobblers Medal. Named in honour of the man who set up this entire competition, the CW Medal is a Brownlow style medal, with 3-2-1 votes given for each AXV game. The night was a success for all involved with little drama (except for a drunk KL co-coach Elephants who ran nude through the crowd, kissing elderly women on his way). KL were particularly successful taking home a host of awards.

After finishing a disappointing 12th in 2013, Kuala Lumpur were aggressive in trade periods and became one of the premier teams within the AXVs competition. The Colliwobblers Preseason Cap provided the perfect launching pad for the Crocs' 2014 season. The CW Preseason Cap is named in honour of the Inaugural Administrator of the AXVs Competition, Colliwobblers. Colli will always be remembered by Asians everywhere for his commitment to the AXVs competition. The Crocs won the preseason compeition after defeating the UAE Tigers 2090 to 1777. The CW Cap was the first award for KL of the night.

The Crocodiles finished 2nd in the 2014 Home and Away Season and will play off in this years Grand Final against the Bangladesh Bears. This improvement was reflected early in the event, as number of KL personnel were singled out in the first of the individual awards of the night, the All-Asian Team of the Year. Gary Ablett was awarded the teams Vice Captain, while young guns Steele Sidebottom and Luke Parker also made the final team. Co-Coaches Ricochet and Elephants were also rewarded for their year and were named as the coaches of the All-Asian Team.

The Golden Budda

The cameras didn't stay off KL for very long as the Golden Budda was awarded shortly after. This award is given to the Highest Scoring Team of the 2014 Home and Away Season. A strong reflection of how well the team performed this season, KL took home the Budda after scoring 36,132 points for the year. KL's total score was also a new record! Eclipsing the 36,043 set by the Lambs in 2013. It was an award that the team at KL were very proud of, although Co-Coach Elephants did attempt to do body shots off the Budda's Belly later in the night... but thats another story.

Other awards were given out throughout the night including the Golden Tater, Wooden Chopsitck, Golden Dragon, Jade Ring and Oriental Medal. The team at the KL Crocs would like to congratulate those winners. But it was time for the big one, the Colliwobblers Medal, and what an exciting finish it was. Gary Ablett, who had dominated a majority of the year, missed the remaining few games with a shoulder injury and Papua New Guinea gun Tom Rockliff was closing in fast. An upset was not to be though, with the KL superstar taking out his second medal (previously called the Great Khali award) after edging out Rockliff by a single vote. Congrats GAJ!
