in sc...

in dt though... maybe 2 years ago if this had happened. To be premium though you'd want a 20 ppg increase :/ Im not sure if he has it in him...

Meh, his highest average in his career is still only 82...

Even if he replicates that (unlikley), he won't be anywhere near the top 6-8 defenders. Not considering at all.

:o didn't realize that, looking at him more in SC than DT.

Yeah, he's a great option in SC, but not much of a DTer...

He'd still flip a bit of coin

"not enough to be a serious cash cow" I hear you say.

With 44 trades it's enough cash to be worth it. He could lift his average 10-15ppg and be good for an upgrade later down the track.

Essentially you're getting an 85 ave defender at 71ave price. 85 defender = GREAT d6.

Just because he is in your Asians side. ::)

I don't see him getting near an 85 average.

He hasn't been DT relevant in the past because he's been playing a backline role which wasn't the best ever for DT.

But if he plays through the midfield he could/might become a dt SLUT.

Only problem is, it's a big but!

We have a pretty elite midfield at the tigers atm - Cotchin, Deledio, Tuck, Foley, Martin, Grigg, Ellis, Conca, Knights would probably get a run through the middle ahead of him, and Vlastuin, Arnot, Lonergan & Titch are all vying for stints in the middle as well. Think it'll be hard for him to break into that midfield, as someone said earlier Broughton was MEANT to be a midfielder last year and look where it got him ::)

In saying that, the signs do point towards extra midfield time for him - Vlastuin/Ellis/Conca would definitely be able to fill his HBF/lockdown roles this year which could well free him up. Also it is reported that Petterd is being lined up for a HBF role, meaning that we might truly be planning on running him through the mids.

All up, it'll be a risk, but might be a good one to take. For me, it'll depend on what looks like happening in NAB cup, and if in still not sure, maybe ill start with Broughton and swap to Newy rd 3 if he does get the midfield role in the H&A season!

Ricochet

The only problem for me is most of my money making rookies are down back, and all mid pricers are up fwd or in the middle so I can't afford to fit him in.
D.Pearce is in the same boat.

Sounds to me more like Newman is slowly being pushed out as the Tigers look towards the future more than Newman being given more opportunities.

They obvious want to give some younger players a chance in defence - players who will be around when the Tigers are challenging for top 4 (not this season yet).

He's  definitelynot going to be in my dream team, I think he could actually go backwards and get a few vests or be 'rested' from a few games because of this.

Besides as Toga stated - who is he going to displace in the Tigers midfield? He might take Foley's spot early on as I believe he's under a bit of an injury cloud but after that...

The player I'd be looking to get is whoever is going to take his spot in Richmond's defence, or whoever is freed up by Newman moving to the midfield.

for me rance could be a chance to get that role, if fit dyland grimes would be looking real good right now. Will need to monitor the backline very carefully chaplin will free up someone too.

Newman is still one of the best ball users @ Richmond. If they want to push for the 8 they'd be best to use him in the mids over 9/10 of their midfielders. It's a good move by the tiges.

Think Rance will still be used in lockdown roles most of the time unfortuntaely ( look at the rig on him! :o ), as will Chaplin, and think grimes will get the loose man/double-teaming role.

Think Brandon Ellis & Conca would be the frontrunners for Newmans spot, and if the former skipper does take Foley's midfield spot while he's recovering, what about Vlastuin? Think about this:

Foley injured -> Newman takes Foley's spot (C) -> Ellis takes Newman's spot (HBF) -> Vlas gets Ellis' utility position (W/HBF/BP)

Could be another solid rookie choice while Foley is out!

Memphistopheles

Yep Ellis and Vlastuin are two I'm keeping my eye on in the NAB Cup.

Noz

Seems to me they don't know exactly where to play Newman, they don't want him in the back line and with a packed mid he won't get enough game time in their leaving him as the perfect person to be subbed out every game he plays.
