Is anyone considering Chris Newman? Has handed over the captancy and will take some pressure off him. Will play up the ground in 2013 and is resoniably priced.

Here's the article from Richmond's website, stating that he will play up the ground more, in 2013

New role for Newman

Rock-solid Richmond defender Chris Newman is being reinvented as a midfielder in the twilight of his league career.

Newman, who resigned the Tigers’ captaincy at the end of last season, after four years in the role, has spent this pre-season preparing for a permanent place in the midfield throughout season 2013.

Richmond midfield coach Danny Daly believes the move will provide the 30-year-old veteran of 214 league games with a new lease of football life.

“’Newy’ was getting a lot of attention from opposition players at half-back last season, which probably limited his effectiveness.  This will give him the chance to be released and will revitalise him,” Daly said.

“He is an excellent user of the football, which will help the quality of our forward-50 entries.

“He’s feeling really good about it and looking forward to the challenge.

“After giving up the captaincy, this is another opportunity for him to play good footy.

“He’ll probably play on the wing, but, of course, he has the flexibility to go to the backline if we need him there at any stage.

“At the end of the day, however, we need to build a back six without Newy, who has held the defence together so admirably, for so long.”

Have always liked his constancy and am considering him but not entirely sold just yet...

Another thing to consider is that if Newy shifts up the ground Ricky Petterd might realistically get some games and become fantasy relevant off of half back!

Haha clicked no on the poll before reading the article ad now I want to change my mind. Just not sure how well he'll score. What does everyone think a realistic average could be?

Remember in 2012 where Gibbs and Broughton were playing in the middle?
This could be a similar situation

You'll be nuts not to consider him! You just have to look at his past averages to get excited and imagine playing in the Midfield! He should be able to average more providing it doesn't take him to long to settle in. Here are his past averages:

05: 98.5
06: 74.6
07: 91.5
08: 100.1
09: 98.8
10: 92.7
11: 98.9
12: 77

Pretty impressive!

Newmans Last 5 years DT Averages:
12 - 70.9 (High:119, Low:29)
11 - 77.5 (High:135, Low: 26 - Injured)
10 - 82 (High:125, Low:37)
09 - 79.6 (High:120, Low:40)
08 -  81.9 (High:130, Low:38)

Durability is pretty good over the last 5 years. Playing between 21-22 every year, except 2011 (17 games).

Consistency is a issue though, scored under 70 points 10 times last yr. Over the last 5 years has scored under 70 in 36 of 103 games  (Roughly 34%). But over the last 2 years has sscored under 70 in 17 of his last 38 games (almost 50%)
