Leuey don't count, hes a must have

Seriously good side. The only thing against it is opinion - mine that is.

If your selections all fire then wow but...

Here's my opinions

Grimes is good and could really be worth it so yep

Like the three def guns

Mids - Murphy hmmm - good but great? Does he do over 150s ever?

Fyfe could go well and is potentially cheap do stick with him if you think he will be a top 10 mid by year's end

Rucks - not keen on budget ruck line. Will Goldy and Leue be keepers? I reckon one of the most frustrating things in this game is buying a player who seems cheap but is just priced correctly. These guys are the ones you stick with to save trades and because they tease but you lose 10 ppg all year long. I will put Goldy and Martin in this group. They end up being last picked on field because you can't bear to offload them as they are about to come good week after week.

SJ could be good but surely he is on he slide. Walker?

Very good team with a score of 8.7/10 on the DocTor rating system.

Top 3 scores from past few years

Murphy 2012:
187 - rd 23 vs Essendon
160 - rd 18 vs Richmond
147 - rd 2 vs Brisbane

Murphy 2011:
164 - EF vs Essendon
147 - rd 10 vs Melbourne
145 - rd 9 vs Geelong

Murphy 2010:
145 - rd 2 vs Brisbane
137 - rd 20 vs Richmond
137 - rd 22 vs Fremantle

Murphy 2009:
150 - rd 1 vs Richmond
143 - rd 10 vs West Coast
138 - rd 20 vs Port Adelaide

As you can see, Murphy has slowly been ramping it up over the last few years. I think all would agree that Murphy had a (fantasy) year to forget last year - often being tagged, and obviously hindered by Carlton's terrible performance at times. However, he still averaged a respectable 112 and removing his sub-affected score from last year would bump his average up a bit as well.

I'm all over him this year - and think he'll prove to be an excellent choice.

Have a look at my side as well if you don't mind :)
Cheers.

Thanks guys, i've made some changes with a couple of things you have said, would love to know if this makes it a better side.
DEF: Goddard, Gibbs, Heppell, Goodes, Pittard, Stevenson (Docherty, Terlich)
MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Cotchin, Murphy, Fyfe, Wines, Mitchell, O'Meara (Crouch, Viney)
RUC: Sandilands, Leuenberger (Rowe, Currie)
FWD: Cox, Walker, Rockliff, Johnson, Martin, Macaffer (Lee, Membrey)

Agreed on the points most specifically around the rucks and so and went and changed a few things around to allow for that.

Thanks again guys

Turbo

5 defenders that rotate into the mids and a couple of forwards which rotate into the mids, but no mids which rotate either way.  Generally a good tem and I too am going for a guns & kids approach.  I would probably change Fyfe for a rookie (plenty of mid rookies) and upgrade a defender to Shaw / Waters / Birchall / Suckling.

roti

Thanks Turbo, my only concern with dropping fyfe is the potential trouble might have with having to upgrade 4 mid premos, probably have to make up over 2mill there, there seems to be a few good back rookies as well.

Sandi is way overpriced. There a plenty of no.1 ruck an out there who will score decently and save you a heap of money ( Goldstein, Jacobs, Mcevoy, Mumford, Gilles) and they aren't so injury prone!

If you consider he had a sub-affected game of 5, his average jumps considerably once it is removed. His 3 scores back from injury were huge: 117, 154, 163... So if anything, he is underpriced.

MC Hammers another good point home!  ;D

I disagree coming off an injury riddled season his price should have dropped more. If he was $80-$100k less I'd consider him. I know he'll give us great scores but if I was to spend that much on a player I'd want to get more than 6-10 games for the season out of him.

For the past 3 years, Sandilands has been battling injuries and has still posted a consistent 110+ average. This year, from all reports, he's broken his PB in the 3km time trial, and is finally over his niggling turf toe injury. Given that Nic Nat is down at the moment, i'll be taking the risk with Sandilands, and will aim to upgrade one of Leuenberger/Sandilands/Cox (depending on injuries and scores etc) to Nic Nat once he's back and firing.

j

Yeah he had a great average for the games he played but what about all the games freo named him then pulled out at the last minute leaving heaps of people with zeros or forcing them to play a second rate ruck man. If you include those weeks his average to well below Gilles and Jacobs. Each to their own but I think I'm much better of saving that money and putting else where where I know I'll get a good solid consistent return.

tor01doc

If my league game hinged on Jenkins vs Sandi - I know who'd I'd want rucking for me.

This team has plenty of keepers compared to some j!

j

Sandi vs Jenkins sure pick Sandi of coarse.
Sandi vs Jacobs- Jacobs will be a better investment

tor01doc

You could well be right j,

however, top few rucks would surely include Sandi if he stays fit.

I think Jacobs is less likely to be top few.

Of course we have the luxury of playing Cox, NicNat, Roughy, Ryder fwd if need be.

Good luck at the selection meetings between now and then.
