Well whatever the reason, it didn't work, bowled by a gem on 8.

Funnily you could make a case for it working. He got a beauty that would have got a lot of other batsmen out, maybe he was just protecting them  :P. Nah but I agree should not be selected for england on this form.

henry

Warner out as well  :-X. Ends a pretty poor tour for him where he averaged under 25.

2 fa 25 ::)

Cowan looking pretty good at the moment, scoring at a fair clip too at 19 off 25. Hopefully won't jinx him before he gets into the nervous 30s. I reckon 200 will be close to enough for the win, 250+ a real bonus with lyon having confidence on a pitch giving him plenty.

If Shane wanted quick runs why didn't he open himself :o

Well with Watson now out we are effectively 41/4. What score is going to be enough on this pitch? Anything above 150 would give us a decent chance I reckon. Hopefully saviour Smith can come in and score a big one, Ed can stick around and the tail can chip in again.

henry

Cowan's out, now 5/65 or effectively 5/65. On this pitch you really have to ride your luck, with spinners especially get to the pitch of the ball as best you can and make sure you punish the bad balls. While Cowan has his critics and is clearly a limited player, I admire the fight he has shown and has had an ok tour, being our 2nd best batsman behind clarke. He just needs to be able to go on once he gets to 20 or 30 as he has on most innings.

Yes Cowan has shown a lot of fight in his innings, I will give him that, really showing the Aussie spirit. Probably the third best batsman of the tour behind Clarke and Smith, but I don't know if he has what it takes to play well when conditions suit the batsmen. To me he seems capable of getting a start, but really seems to have trouble going on with it. I guess the question is, is it more important to form a good opening partnership or is it more important to have an opener that will go on and score a lot of big scores.

Personally I think his average of around 35 won't really improve and we might see him dropped during or after the Ashes.

Yeah I really like him and think that if he can turn more of the 20s and 30s into tons he can average 40 which is pretty good for an opener. Unfortunately you always have the feeling he is a couple of failures away from being dropped yet he has had a far better tour than hughes and watson and warner.

Smith and Wade have got us the biggest partnership this innings so far, important that they stick around until lunch in 5 mins.

7/94!!!!!!!!

Steve Smith and Johnson out in consecutive balls

This could be over by tonight

Cicjose

Wade's dismissal was appalling

I think this game will be a draw ;)

Unless Patto/Lyon destroy it with the bat, Siddle will be the best batter ever to top score in both innings batting at #9

henry

Sids! What a gun, a true victorian  8). Must be playing on a different pitch to everyone else lol. Another 15-20, setting them 150 may be enough but more would be great :)
