You're kidding yourself if you think Maxwell is good enough to be in our best 11...

Clyde Frog

"Who are the best players of spin in Australian cricket?

1/ Michael Clarke. 2/ Shaun Marsh. 3/ David Hussey. 4/ Marcus North.

Where are these guys? Granted, Marsh has the hamstrings of a paper mache horse and is out of the game at the moment.

When he was fit, he was not selected.

North is somewhere other than India and even though Dave Hussey continually spruikes his availability for Test cricket, he is continually overlooked."

I just thought this part of the article was interesting. In regards to North, he is playing 2nd 11 for WA at the moment.

BB67th

Yeah after giving up the WA captaincy last season North has lost it I think. He is just too old now and doesn't play well anymore. Age has finally caught up to him. He's 34 now and has not had a good Shield season. I still think Hussey Jr should have been picked for India though.

@nigey mate you can't seriously have maxwell at 5 and siddle at 6, change the batting order around and don't mind the team.
Here is my team for the next test:

Warner
Cowan
Khawaja
Clarke
Watson
Haddin (wade injured, haddin a better player of spin)
Henriques
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon
Doherty

So out go wade (inj) maxwell and hughes, in come khawaja haddin and lyon. Maybe a bit stiff for maxwell to get dropped after taking 4 but should never have played last game imo and we need 2 specialist spinners with clarke and warner bowling a bit (if fully fit). Siddle could potentially be replaced by Starc or Johnson to give a changeup in the form of the left armers angle which the selectors seem to like.

BB67th

This pitch will be the only one to actually have something in it for the quicks over the spinners. So drop Lyon for Doherty, and Maxwell for Johnson.

Geeves team is one of the worst i've ever seen
Better then the team from the last test

I agree with Cic. 4 of Geeves' top 6 shouldn't be in the squad. The two that should stay are Khawaja (is due for a go) and Clarke (because he single-handedly holds the team together, period).

1. Cowan Warner
2. Shaun Marsh Hughes
3. Michael Clarke
4. Khawaja
5. Dave Hussey Maxwell
6. Marcus North (offies) Siddle
7. Watson/Henriques (if Watto is fit play him and let him open)
8. Wade
9.  O'Keefe.
10. Starc. Cummins/Bird
11. Pattinson

Starc or the one to miss of Cummins/Bird should be the 12th man.

Inb4 hate and showerstorm over my inclusion of Maxwell and omission of Starc.
You do realise that Maxwell averages 22 with the bat and only 1 ton in 16innings in Shield and you want him to be Australia's no.5? That is crazy man ???

Jay

I hear Wade is injured and that they are considering flying Brad Haddin out

Cicjose

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/brad-haddin-to-join-australians-in-india/story-e6frg7mf-1226594722291

BRAD Haddin will fly to India tomorrow as standby for Matthew Wade who has an ankle injury and is in doubt for the third cricket Test.
The incumbent wicketkeeper sprained his ankle playing basketball and was unable to train yesterday.

Shane Warne's side for the third test
1. Dave Warner
2. Shane Watson
3. Glenn Maxwell
4. Michael Clarke
5. Usman Khawaja
6. Matthew Wade
7. Moises Henriques
8. Steve Smith
9. Mitchell Johnson
10. James Pattinson
11. Nathan Lyon

How can Warney play 3 All-Rounders ??? Only Henriques is probably good enough for test cricket...

Everyone is turning Maxwell into something he is not, just because he is a spinner and bats does not mean he is good enough at either to warrant selection.

Get Steven O'Keefe in!

I think he just wants more media attention....

My 3rd test team

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Smith
Haddin
Henriques
Johnson
Starc
Lyon

Smith in for Maxwell, better batsman and bowler IMO. Wickets in the last test wre dollys
Johnson and Starc in for Siddle and Pattison, bowler rotation
Lyon in for Doherty, enough said
Haddin in for injured Wade, Haddin should be the test keeper against India and England anyway

I agree, I reckon Pattinson will keep his place and only one of Starc or Johnson will come in. Don't like Smith too fidgety lol, not convinced he's a better option than maxwell. I'd be tempted to play only 4 bowlers (Patto, Starc/Johnson, Henriques and Lyon) and get Khawaja in as our batting has been worse than our bowling, but that may lead to overworking especially if clarke isn't able to bowl much.
