Hughes will do complete crap in India and don't expect anything from him at all. Don't expect much from the Aussies as a team really. Phil can't play spin yet, but I think he can learn for later tours. If we are to succeed in the Ashes we need Hughes to fire and to make some big scores. Dropping him now would have no use at all.

Also, when does Joe Burns get a run?
Hughes has been out to spin 4 times for a total of 25 runs. I would much rather have Khawaja play against India first of all, and also in the ashes.  We must be competitive in this series, and what is the point of playing Hughes if he will do "complete crap"? That will do no good for his confidence or that of Australia.

Hughes is the best young batsman in Australia and is clearly viewed as a player of the future. India is an extremely hard place to bat, especially if it is your first time in India. Hughes needs to experience Indian conditions and the only way to do that is by playing games. There is no use dropping him now. The same goes for Warner and Cowan. They may not score alot of runs this series, but the next time they play a series in India they will.

Khawaja's time will come but it won't be now and it won't be in Phil Hughes's position.
You could say the same for Khawaja, be too needs a chance to experience Indian conditions and I think it should be at the expense of hughes, at number 3 (or 4 if clarke moves up) where he has batted before. There is no point carrying a player just to give him experience when he has looked hopeless and hasn't looked like scoring runs. By all means bring Hughes back for the greener english wickets just give ussie this chance!

sack Inverarity.

Interesting point Big Tom..he hasn't been flash

Glenn Maxwell's First Class History - 16 matches av 39 HS 103* and one century. 31 wkts and BB 4-42.

Hardly the stuff to right home about and get a baggy green. Australia is littered with players who went a whole career without a baggy green ie Jamie Cox and Jamie Siddons.

OK he took 4 wickets but he went for 6 an over which reminds me of a spinner who took 12 wickets in a match on the last Indian tour - Jason Kresja and he was dropped like a hot potato.

Brett Geeves best team

1. Cowan
2. Shaun Marsh
3. Michael Clarke (should definitely bowl more, possible back soreness?)
4. Khawaja
5. Dave Hussey
6. Marcus North (offies)
7. Watson - when fit to bowl - Or Henriques/Butterworth. winner of roshambo plays.
8. Wade ( if he promises not to sweep)
9.  O'Keefe.
10. Starc.
11. Pattinson

it depends on whether we declare 9 down again or not

colmullet

haha yeah i mean i know he wanted to have the indians face an awkward 5 overs or whatever but if they put on an extra 20-30 it would have been much better, however unlikely it was

Don't think dropping Hughes is the answer, served us well in Australia lately.

Other players get 2 seasons grace without scoring over 20 and don't get dropped.

Players hit bad patches, just give Hughes some time, he earnt it.

Last time he was dropped he was averaging in the 80s and lost his confidence due to a stupid drop. Dropping him will only hurt in the long run. Dropping Hughes = 1 step forward and 13 steps backward.

Finally someone who agrees with me about Hughes!

I also like that team above, but North is old and has lost it now. Replace him with Warner who can also bowl a bit, and maybe Khawaja instead of Cowan?

I agree with Cic. 4 of Geeves' top 6 shouldn't be in the squad. The two that should stay are Khawaja (is due for a go) and Clarke (because he single-handedly holds the team together, period).

1. Cowan Warner
2. Shaun Marsh Hughes
3. Michael Clarke
4. Khawaja
5. Dave Hussey Maxwell
6. Marcus North (offies) Siddle
7. Watson/Henriques (if Watto is fit play him and let him open)
8. Wade
9.  O'Keefe.
10. Starc. Cummins/Bird
11. Pattinson

Starc or the one to miss of Cummins/Bird should be the 12th man.

Inb4 hate and showerstorm over my inclusion of Maxwell and omission of Starc.
