Only in the first innings of the first Test in Chennai has Australia progressed past 100 runs by the time they have lost their third wicket, and too often, not just on this tour, Clarke has been left to pick up the pieces.

Statistics published by leading cricket website ESPN Cricinfo reveal a grim reality, in particular at No. 3 for Australia, with the country averaging only 27.13 in the key position over the past three years â€" a figure bettered by Bangladesh and all other Tests nations except New Zealand and Zimbabwe.

The current resident at No. 3, Phillip Hughes, has struggled to adjust to Indian conditions and posted only 25 runs in four innings here.

The 24-year-old stands to be a victim of a facelift of the batting order that alongside a promotion of Clarke could also see Usman Khawaja granted a first Test appearance in 15 months.

I just saw this what the actual flower is going on? I never thought we were as retarded as the BCCI!!!!!!

These 4 miss out because they didn't write a personal reflection on why we lost the 2nd test. Yep cos it takes a genius to work that one out doesnt it! So JAmes Pattinson, our only bowler who has looked threatening gets stood down for the only test that will actually help the quicks because he didnt talk about his feelings.

So I guess this means Steve Smith comes in for the next test. Woop dee flowering doo.

Cicjose

why should Khawaja have to write a reflection on why they lost....

he hasn't played Tests for 15 months.....

how would he know what goes out in the middle during a test match when he isn't involved?

BB67th

So this is the likely line up for next test?

Warner
Cowan
Clarke
Hughes
Wade
Smith
Maxwell
Henriques
Starc
Siddle
Lyon
Doherty

With MJ, Patto out and Bird injured, I think that means spuds Doherty, Maxwell and Smith still have to play ::)

BB67th

Or maybe Haddin can play instead of Steve Smith if Wade can play as well? Wade specialist bat and Haddin keeper?

tbagrocks

My guess is Andrew Demetriou is secretly running the CA

BB67th

I would think Adrian Anderson at the moment ::)

He does have a role in cricket now doesn't he?

henry

What the hell is going on over there, you have got to be kidding me. What are we trying to do, tank or something? Lull england into a false sense of security by getting white washed 4-0?

Of course now I've said that the aussies will win this test  ::) I hope so lol. Utter madness

My 3rd test team

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Smith
Haddin
Henriques
Johnson
Starc
Lyon

Smith in for Maxwell, better batsman and bowler IMO. Wickets in the last test wre dollys
Johnson and Starc in for Siddle and Pattison, bowler rotation
Lyon in for Doherty, enough said
Haddin in for injured Wade, Haddin should be the test keeper against India and England anyway
I won a $5 bet with my mate that watto would go home before the series was over.

QuoteWatson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson and Usman Khawaja were told on Monday morning by the coach Mickey Arthur that they would not be considered for the third Test in Mohali after ignoring team orders following the crushing innings defeat in Hyderabad. After the loss inside three and a half days, Arthur asked every member of the squad to let him know three points on how their individual performances and those of the team could be improved.
This leaves us with 12 players left one being Wade who might be out.

You forgot Doherty.

So there are 13 players but Wade will probably not play which means that one person is going to miss out, haha unlucky to be them.

This fiasco has certainly saved Phil Hughes' ass.

"In the end I have got to live with it. That is the decision they have made and at this point in time I am at a stage where I have to way up my future with what I want to do with my cricket in general.

"I am going to spend the next few weeks with my family and weigh up my options as to exactly which direction I want to go or keep on.

"I am going to have to sit down and work that out with my family. There are a lot more important things in life. I do love playing cricket and that passion is still there and I feel I am in the prime years of my cricket career."

Asked to describe his emotions, Watson said he was "excited to be able to go home and not miss the birth of my baby" but also "absolutely shattered".

Its an absolute disgrace that Australian Cricket has come to this. A foreign coach asking the players to write a reason on their bad performance and to give 3 reasons to improve. This is so typical of a management that has no answers well lets ask the employees for some ideas on how to make the business turn around. Once you have come to this stage it is the end my friend.

Now OK you asked for feedback or help Mickey but to go this way and sack players stinks of your own failings. You cannot divert your inabllity to coach this team correctly. This is not the way to show discipline in the year 2013. To show fear to your employees to get results is so 80's.

GOODBYE MICKEY YOUR SO FINE MICKEY

I agree with Mickey Arthur's decision. If professional players getting paid 6 figures a year can't spare a moment to write down what they think, when everybody else did, well clearly they don't care about the team.

Shame on you Shane Watson. The Vice-Captain of the team should know better. And now to sook and threaten to retire is something incredibly childish (fair enough going home to pregnant wife though).

Khawaja should be doing everything he can to prove his worth, unless he is happy being the reserve batsmen at best.

PowerBug

They actually did do their homework, but Mickey thinks they cheated because they all had the same three reasons....

2. Drop Hughes
