Is starting 3 rookies in the mid a bad choice? Noticed people have mixed opinions on this.
Which is the best way? 4 premo's, fyfe, embley and 2 starting rookies (for example) or the way I have it now?

All other opinions/advice encouraged.

Thanx.

really liking the look of your team, for me birchall to heppell for some reason i just dont think Birchall is going to improve on the 88-89 mark where i think heppell can

only other thing which is a toss up really varcoe to brynes, much of a muchness really though.

apart from those two small difference of opinion really good team

if you get the chance have a look at mine http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,71722.0.html

Agree about Birchall, glad you said it. Backs my own opinion of him up.
Thanx mate

I'll be starting 5 elite mids and ball with 2 rooks.

Means only 3 elite def and 3 elite fwd, but with the mid priced fwd options thats fine and in def i just make my first upgrade there.

mids significantly outscore fwds and massively outscore defenders, can't see the point in a 4th elite defender over a 5th elite mid 30 points per game loss on average.

Great point, going to work on that right now. thanx.

where is O'meara?

i think you gotta have him, move vlastuin down back and bring o'meara in. i d say you need crouch too but not as much

Was thinking of the DP of Vlastuin, don't think its that important?

Will get O'meara back sometime during nab.

agree on o'meara, switch him in for vlastuin.

keep an eye on colonquin through nab cup and if he is named for round 1 migh be a good cheap option for rookie defender, and make sure goodes is named for round one meaning he will need to be elevated from rookie list first otherwise i don't see the point in starting him.

same midfield as mine pretty much except i am considering j selwood over cotchin and am pretty much set on ball over embley just because i trust him more and i am a sucker for a pie.

i am considering varcoe if he is fit and looks greatin nab cup for my mid 7 spot also, just becasue he is the only DPP fwd option i would consider, not sure i need one and if i dont i'll start rooks in this order for mids

o'meara
viney
wines
lonergan
crouch
jones

but that is personal tasted and nab cup may change everything to do with rooks...

i like your team a lot.

the onyl thing i have different at the moment (structure wise) is i have an extra premium defender and one less premium fwd instead, due to macaffer being a worthy starter and also due to me not being sold on enough defender rookies to start 3, that should change throughout nab cup tho.

got to watch knights varcoe and byrnes closely in nab cup to see which if any or all are must haves, think macaffer is a must have already as long as he is fir he is a lock.

there are also nicoski but i wont go there, the cue stick could surprise but he isnt cheap enough, same for lecras too dear, jjkennedy the stutterrat might be another solid mid priced fwd option but i'm not sold on him either with cox living up fwd once nicnat is back, that said the cue stick has gone now so there should be PLENTY for kennedy and cox in the fwd line.

but kennedy is 270k also which is cheap for him considering he averaged 70,71,79 in the 3 years before last year. but still its a bit to pay...

good luck for the season and do plenty of watching of the nab cup, if you cant watch,  do plenty of reading :)

I'm pretty happy with my side, I took on Hanley after reading the DT TALK interview with Rockliff..

I'll take Fyfe knowing he only has a 4% chance re-occurrence of his injury.

As a Carlton supporter I know Robbo is a gun and loves the hard ball, although he makes me nervous at how hard he goes sometimes. He played a few rounds last year with a broken hand so hes a lock... Tough as nails.

I'd still love some opinions thrown at me, not including rookies.

Thanx guys, appreciate it.

not 100% sold on macaffers job security - only time will tell. good team it doesnt need much more work at all

if macaffer has a bad NAB cup and doesnt get named round 1 - you could downgrade fyfe to embley, then pick up varcoe for lee. still keep macaffer on the bench, good bench cover to have.

like i said not much other than that - good to see a uniquer picks in hanley/robinson in there -

Money

having Staker and Macaffer as M5 and M6 is pretty risky, M6 and bench is way safer, honestly i liked your second team better

Ablett; won't even bother going on :P
Would prefer Heppell to Broughton if you have the cash, Heppell will get 90-96 while can't see Broughts topping 88.
Not even PODs foar me, I'm a slave to the unique tho :3

GC will wean their dependence on him off this season to allow Swallow, Bennell etc all their young mids to progress to league-beaters, so GAJ will get less possessions. Add to that his injuries in the pre-season probably won't average 115+.

QuoteCaptain Gary Ablett has been hampered by back and calf problems but is training and will see some pre-season action
