Updated my team if anyone could offer some wisdom that would be great

Windigo

Defence: Goddard, Gibbs, Hartlett, Atley, Pittard, Goodes (Stevenson, Terlich)

Midfield: Ablett, Boyd Pendles, Kennedy, Mundy, Stevens, Whitfield, O'Mera (Wines, Viney)

Rucks: Kruezer, Vardy (Currie, Witts )

Forwards: Cox, Rockliff, Robinson, Sylvia, Varcoe, Kennedy (Neade/Newton, Paparone)

Kreuzer has snuck in there I see. I've just recently done that. Did your read my post in Coaches section by any chance?  :P

Solid back line, H.H was great last week and it's a real toss up between Duff, Hepp & him IMO for that D3 spot.  :P Not a fan of Atley, but I see the appeal. I just don't think he'll average enough to warrant selection at 300 K. I'd downgrade him upgrade Kennedy to Swanny. Would make the mids pop, with Boyd in there as well.  8)

Koby isn't worth the extra money IMO, I'd trade him to Lonergan maybe?  ???

Greta fwd line, no rookies on field just makes the team look better. Not sure on JJK, reckon there is better value elsewhere. Monitor his other nab games. But Knights, Karnezis, Byrnes & Petterrd are hovering also. I've cooled on Colin, looked tired. And dat strapping.  :o

Overall, quality side with maybe too much spent in the mids with a 200K Kobe at M6 as well as Whitfield... :-\

I have thought about doing this

Atley - Vlastiun
Whitfield - Lonergan
Stevens - Hannebery

Or as you said just go Atley - Rookie and Kennedy to Swan but with the Swans easy games i can see Kennedy going close to 600k early in the season.

But unsure if that makes my defence look far too weak as i don't think Vlastiun has the best JS  :-\

I think by ends year Kruezer will be the most improved player at Carlton along with Gibbs they just needed a fresh face at the helm Malthouse will bring the best out of them both but i find myself hard to pick Kruezer after being burnt in the past.

Actually haven't read your post about Kruezer yet i might have to track it down  :P

Looking at other alternatives to Sylvia as well, Bruest has sparked me since day 1 of pre season. Lecras looked in top notch yesterday

Windigo

Kennedy is more of an SC option TBH.  :-\ Dimma loves Vlastuin and he has not put a step wrong and is just about a certainty for a round 1 spot in my eyes.

Stevens>Lonergan I like.  8)

I agree with you on Kreuz. Hopefully Malthouse can get Kreuz up to where he should be.  ;) And not play Hampson & Warnock in the same team.  ::)

Bit long, but here's my reasoning:

It's something I've been contemplating for a while. But have never implemented because of cash restrictions. But Embley going down has allowed me to find that extra 100 K to possibly make it possible.

I'm not a huge fan of the ruck stocks this year, every ruck seems to an element of uncertainty unless your Cox. Even Maric at his price is very hard to stomach.

I was gunna have Cox as R1, but then I didn't really want to be paying half a million for a ruck. But as a fwd he offers superior flexibility with the trading rule.

I reckon you can afford to take a gamble with the rucks this year with all these new trades, as well Cox being a fwd.

So my current set up is Kreuzer & Berger. I had Kreuz last year hoping he'd smash it. He didn't really, but he has his best season averaging 78. With a strong finish. From all reports he's had a good pre-season, and had a good game netting 80 points with a goal and plenty of touches. Just maybe this year he can be breakthrough and be a star ruck.

And if he doesn't, then trade Kreuz out, swap Cox to the ruck and Kreuz up front is just enough/or thereabouts for a swap to Sylvia, Broughton, Cloke or Lecras. Whichever is gunning it early, I'd get on him.

If it wasn't for all these trades and Cox being DPP. I wouldn't do it, but the risks are far less.

Noz

You raise a few interesting points i haven't really thought about the opportunity of using Cox's DPP in trades yet, With all these trades like you said you can afford these mistakes.

Kruezer looks to be as fit as ever and with Hampson publicly saying he will play a more Key Forward role this season it seems Kruezers only challenge now is Warnock but will Mick play all 3?  :-\

Im a bit hesistant on starting Leuey this year i see more upside in Vardy if Leuey is showing any signs of slowing down i have a feeling Voss will rest him after all he has a more than suitable replacement in Longer and Stefan Martin, Right now at Geelong ruck stocks are extremely thin. HMAC is in doubt for the start of the season, Simpson is injured. Its out of West and Vardy. Scott said early in the pre season Vardy will play a more key forward role this season so who's to say Vardy won't push himself in the best 22.

--------------------------------

The Atley/Stevens to Vlastiun/Lonergan trade leaves me with roughly 250k to splash around
Kennedy - Swan
Whitfield - Hannebery
Mundy - Swan
Kennedy - Swan then Mundy - Dangerfield

Are all on the cards right now

Windigo

I just think that Cox as a DPP with the trade thing, is a great safety blanket for your ruck. So thus you can afford to take massive risks on rucks if you have the cash to bail him to a fwd.  :P

Well, Malthouse didn't play Wood & Jolly in the same team did he? It'll be Kreuz at number one, Hampson up front & Warnock backing up and IMO should be looking for a trade next year.  :-X

Fair point on Vardy. I'd still give Berger the benefit of the doubt and keep him until proven otherwise. Vardy isn't what you'c all a dominant scorer just yet...

I like the last one. Danger is better than Mundy & Swan is Swan, keep calm and lock Swan.  8)

Noz

Done and dusted midfield now looks like this

Ablett, Swan, Boyd, Pendles, Dangerfield, Whitfield, O'Meara, Wines (Lonergan, Viney)

Downgrading Whitfield to a rookie and upgrading Sylvia to a forward premium is on the cards but i don't really want to do that as i see Whitfield ready to explode this season and average 75

Windigo

Much better.  8)

Putting Lonergan on field over O'Meara just 'makes' the mids look EVEN better IMO.  :P

Noz

Thanks for your input Windigo much appreciated  :)

Team looks good Noz. Solid over all lines  8)
Although your midfield looks super strong you now have 4 premo mid's with the rnd13 bye could be an issue?

Might be a small issue but I plan on throwing a bye round haven't worked out which one it may just be round 13.

Still not fully sold on Dangerfield yet.

I like the strategy Windi. What are your thoughts on doing it with someone like Jon Giles instead? ??? Reckon he's set to improve, and I can see him going 90+ this year... I'd love to take the punt on Kreuz but I think Giles will probably outscore him this year and is probably a bit safer?

Noz

Defence: Goddard, Gibbs, Hartlett, Pittard, Goodes, Stevenson (Docherty, Terlich)

Midfield: Ablett, Swan, Pendles, Deledio, Mundy/Fyfe, Hannebery, Wines, O'Mera (Crouch, Kommer)

Rucks: Kruezer, Leuey (Rowe, Currie)

Forwards: Coz, Zorko, Rocky, Sylvia, Karnezis, Caf (Neade, Paparone)

Cash: $32,100

That will be my team come round 1 don't see any huge changes now to this, Maybe some minor niggles here and there but i think I'm set.

Hopefully will be in line for a great season and will enjoy keeping you all up to date with my progress.

Windigo

Sylvia worries me a bit, looked slow and was strapped to the shizen.  :-\
