QuoteWEST Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui has ruled himself out of the NAB Cup as he recovers from groin surgery and says he doesn't have a timeline for his playing return.

The All Australian big man has recently ramped up his running program and started doing skills work following groin surgery in November.

However, with the Eagles' opening NAB Cup matches just eight days away, Naitanui said it would be unrealistic to aim for any pre-season action ahead of the round one derby against Fremantle on March 23.

I know most people, including myself, will be taking Goldy/HMac over him, but Zero chance of him making many teams now.

this injury is  shame as felt it would be his year to really go bang. Will still be good in the 2nd half but might have to wait until 2014 to see him dominate the oppositon

Good news for blokes like Lycett and Sinclair, if they can prove their worth in the nab cup while Cox and Naitanui are missing could play a few early while the eagles *ease* them back into the team.

Yeah with his dislocated finger which broke the skin. Doctor said he shouldn't play until at least their last nab cup game as his role as ruckman puts a lot of focus and stress on the hand, and if he rushes back into it could find himself with a really flowered up finger.
