Is Luke Ball worth it at M5 or is it better to chance it with a rookie instead?

Definitely worth it, i currently have him there. Could generate a load of cash and average 85-100.

Thanks MTTY

Also, who would you choose for F2 out of Pavlich, Ryder, Walker or Stevie J?

Out of those guys:

Pavlich: Seems to have the most scoring capability from those listed and was dominant as a pure forward last season. No reason he can't do as he did last season (watch nab, as he is coming off a few surgeries)

Ryder: May not play as much ruck, with Bellchambers now becoming the majority ruck. Seems to score better when playing part time as a ruck, so his scoring may lower this season

Walker: Good option, has shown his scoring potential and the difficulty of defenders containing him. If Jenkins/McKernan can attract one of the two key defenders from other teams, then i see no reason why he can't improve his average further.

Johnson: Should continue his midfield role, possible more as an outside mid than an inside one though. Chapman is rumored to make a move back into the midfield for periods, so that may give Johnson more time as a half forward or forward pocket which could lower his scores.

In conclusion, i would rule out Ryder straight away (unless the DPP/Bye round works into your plan extremely well). The other three are all good options but i'd have to say Pavlich.

Hey MTTY, following on from the last question, I have Roughy as my F2 but enough cash to put in Pav if NAB form is good. Already have Rocky and Stevie J as F3/F4, not interested in Ryde. So, excluding Pav, would you have Roughy or Tex as F2?

Dependent on if Bailey plays for the hawks or not. If he does then go Tex, if he doesnt then go for Roughead as he will have too much competition up front for points, with limited (if any ruck time).

How about the two D's Captains, Grimes really lifted his scoring in the second half and I really want to pick him, the other guy has been in rehab I believe but will that effect and real improvement from Trengove? It's probably to early to pick him now with no pre-season but he's cheap and could go over 100?

Grimes - Get on him tbag, he's been training to play as a pure mid this season, so expect to see him solely there this year.

Trengove - As you have said limited pre-season, which makes him a no from me as he could take a few weeks to really get going (with possible spells as a half forward rather than mid, at the start of the year for fitness). Upgrade target at best for me, this year.
More mid-time = more chance of injury.  No concerns here mtty?

edit - ignore, I just saw your response to Ringo.  I find it funny that Grimes was a such a big no for so long due to injury concerns, and he has one good year and all is forgotten.  Dont get me wrong, he has huge potential and I would love to pick him, but I just dont have the confidence in him to stay fit that most ppl on ff seem to have now.

I think i've mentioned it somewhere here (not sure where) but yes more chance of injury but i'd expect it to be more so concussion/soreness more than soft tissues. (seems to be over his soft tissue injuries).

No more concern than i would have with any other player.

See edits above.

I remember seeing an interview with him 3 years ago where he said he'd never had the core strength other players have - and this was the origin of most of his injuries (minus the ankle & corkies).  If he's built that core strength I'd be more comfy with the selection, but again more mid-time is a risk imo.

chrs, great writeups as usual.

Just thought i'd bump this thread, as i have some spare time if anyone has more questions.

Hey MTTY...what are your thoughts on running with Swan, Pendles , Beams and Ball (m5) in the same team.?
Plus Heater and Cloke on other lines.

Bit of a risk, although its top 18 scorers in the bye rounds, you can only have those 18 from onfield players (meaning 4 at the most in any bye round for any line, without copping a donut) this limits you very badly with which players you can upgrade to, while also meaning you have four players at the moment (although of whom are premium/semi premium) out of your midfield, of which is your highest scoring position.

Thanks MTTY...actually Ball is at M6. The rest of the mid line is Ablett, Parker and Wines. Bye rounds..bah..

Yeah the byes will continue to frustrate, they have made it challenging rather than easy though. They could easily have just said best 18 with bench players included.

Vicious Sandwhich Attack

Hey MTTY,

Any thoughts on Caddy appreciated.

Hey MTTY,

Any thoughts on Caddy appreciated.

I think for SC he could be a good option in another year, but with Ball at such a low price i can see Ball averaging a fair way higher than Caddy. So for me its a no, due to more value in players that cost the same.
