Murphy AND no Montagna, Jukes? What happened there  ;)

LOCKED in, as I've stated in the Marc Murphy thread,

Anybody worried about his early fixtures? After Richmond, an up and coming side with a very strong midfield (Cotchin, Deledio, Tuck plus other lads like Jackson and Conca who might constrict Carlton), he faces Collingwood (Swan, Pendles, Beams, Sidebottom, Ball...), Geelong (Selwood, Bartel, Corey, Kelly, Caddy), West Coast away (Selwood x2, Kerr, Priddis), and Adelaide (Thompson, Dangerfield, van Berlo, Sloane, Wright, Reilly). 2 teams with good midfields and 3 teams with great midfields.

Murphy could come out of those first 5 games with an average below 100...

So what I'm thinking is to start with Montagna, see him smash those first three weeks, hold him in the side another couple weeks, then trade him to Murphy, who has hopefully dropped a bit of cash and Monty has gained a bit so they're about the same prices, then trade Monty to Murphy when the fixturing evens out and reap the benefits.

I think he misses Round 1 through suspension? could be wrong

Monty will still average more in the first month though.

I have analysed and rated at least 10,000 teams this pre-season, now can somebody have a go at mine?

Backs: Goddard, Gibbs, Lake, Goodes, Docherty, Stevenson (Terlich, Colquhoun)
Mids: Cotchin, Pendlebury, Stanton, Redden, Murphy, Fyfe, Viney, o'Meara (Crouch/Mitchell, Jones)
Rucks: Goldstein, Leuenberger (Witts, Currie)
Forwards: Johnson, Rockliff, Nick Riewoldt, Wright, Cloke, Byrnes (Mayes, Lee)

In a nutshell Jukes: Your defence is too weak, your midfield and forwards are too unique and your rucks ... look good.

In a bit more depth:

Defence: When I looked at the defenders this season I just didn't really see anything decent in the rookie/mid pricer/cheap range who could offer good scoring while you wait to upgrade to premiums. So I'm thinking the strategy is to upgrade this first and start with 4-5 premiums and only have to upgrade 1-2 to score consistently each week. You on the other hand have done the opposite which I think could backfire big time.

Midfield: For someone who spent so little on his defence I'd expect a super midfield and this really isn't one. Not having one of Swan, Ablett or Boyd who I think will still be the three top scorers at the end of the season will kill you. I tried going without Swan last season and managed for about half a season but then just fell away. Rookies look ok - who's Jones though? surely a better option out there.

Also the midfield rookies are traditionally the highest scorers and I can't see that changing this year so by having so many premiums you are missing out here.

Rucks: Most will start with the Goldy/Lewy combo so that's good. I don't think Witts will play much though as Coll have Jolly, Lynch and Hudson ahead of him.

Forwards: Johnson and Rockliff yes, the other semi-premiums no. Saints will slide down the ladder this season and Riewoldt will find himself struggling for service. Also the coach will want to give Lee/White some time to develop. Wright could do ok but is a bit much of a gamble imo, Cloke's a power forward and aside from Buddy power forwards don't tend to do as well as the forward/mid types. Byrnes could be alright but i'd rather gamble on someone like Macaffer.

Suggestions: Go back to having four mid prems, make one of them Swan/Ablett/Boyd and upgrade your defence. Also pick smarter in the forward line.

I do have faith in Murphy mate! Just not in the first five rounds compared to Monty!

I think you've overstated Macaffer's and Terlich's averages by about 20, and understated that of Mayes.

I really like the 4 Premo DEF this year, just think the team looks a lot better in general.
Swan is finally there! a captain choice.
5 guns FWD line is really good, and it's not like Staker is a rook - should average 70 when fit!

I'd probably try and find money for Docherty, Macaffer and Pittard

hmm I'm not keen on Goldy... what if he spuds up and averages sub 85? Who will you trade him too?

Like the uniques in Wright, NRoo, Lake, Heppell, Cloke and Stanton too!
