Squad David Warner, Ed Cowan, Phillip Hughes, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke (capt), Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith, Matthew Wade (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle, Jackson Bird, Xavier Doherty, Nathan Lyon.

Look, Smith has a lot of potential in limited overs stuff. But surely has no place in the test team.

It would go Maxwell/Henriques/Johnson as all rounders before Smith. And I reckon Clarke and Warner have better spinning records than Smith at this stage, and nowhere near ahead of Lyon, Doherty or Maxwell

Hilf :(

Windigo

I hate him. Dafuq does he do to deserve spot.

colmullet

yeah no idea why he's there and a guy like O'Keefe isnt

Nige

Plenty of people who deserve spot over Smith...

To be honest i don't see the point of having all these average all rounders in the squad over specialized batters or bowlers. None of these guys will average 35+ with the bat and <27 with the ball or so

Exactly. An all-rounder, in test cricket anyway, has to be able to hold in his spot as a batsmen or a bowler.

Watson is the only one that fits this bill, and he just quit bowling.

Agreed. We are better off imo with guys like Warner and Clarke making up some overs, rather than bringing in a nothing AR just for the sake of having one

O'keefe a much better player IMO than smith!

Capper

I think CA has penciled in O'Keefe as an ODI/T20 player only, but i thought that they would have put Smith in there as well. Dont know why Smith was selected but it still looks like a good squad.

Obviously with the squad selected they will play 5 batsmen, Wade, an alrounder and 4 bowlers.

Capper

Also interestingly enough that they only selected one keeper in the squad on 17 and it looks like they will ned to pick 2 keepers for the squad of 16 for the Ashes or will Hughes/Quiney go as the 2nd keeper to England.

My Chumps

I'm just waiting for my baggy green... Surely it can't be too hard if Smith can still get a go?

I thought Doherty and Maxwell had been pencilled in for that as well

It looks like they are going to give Haddin a bit of a rest thinking they won't need him in India, but they have given indications they will take Haddin, Paine or possibly Nevil to the Ashes as second keeper.
