FanFooty logic:
Boyd scored more points than any player in 2012.
Has missed only 2 games in seven years.
DO NOT WANT!

Nutcases.

Haha so true. The guy has averaged 115, 3 years in a row.

He is still a jet and will once again average 115. You can't write the guy off due to age.

We can't see any reasons why Boyd will improve his average, while the only reason he'd drop is him getting less of the ball due to the development of young guns such as my smokey Jason Tutt and their new gun draftees, should still average 113-116 though.

The reason I'm not picking him is because of the much larger chance of improvement of average by other premiums. In my current midfield set-up alone, Cotchin and Pendles should improve ~5 points, Stanton 5-8, and Redden and Murphy around 10 each. That's money to be gained, rather than getting Boyd for that straight out 113-116 average.

Get what I'm saying?

Correct.

Im not picking Boyd as the dogs are going down hill fast. Boyd got a lot of cheap processions last year from quick little 1-2 HBs and then a kick down field, but 70% of those kicks went to the opposition.

Jason Tutt? Seriously? He'll play the whole year in the VFL then get delisted.

Excluding Pendlebury, all the guys you mentioned could stand still and not improve at all, and possibly go backwards. They'll still be 5-10 points behind Boyd. The fortunes of his team won't effect Boyd's style of play. You'll get what you pay for.

Cotchin is the 1-2 king and teams might tighten up on him a bit more.
Stanton could start 2013 the way he finished 2012.
Redden went backwards in 2012 and could continue to slide.
Murphy has had an injury interrupted preseason.

Is this game about money or points?

I would start with Boyd if I didnt already have Ablett, Swan, Pendles and Cotchin in my mids.....

What are peoples thoughts on Scotty Thompson as a slightly cheaper super premo midfield option @541k? in 2011 he finally managed to hit the elite bracket and start hitting some massive scores and averaged 109. this year teams started to notice him a lot more and he was often first tagged despite being an inside midfielder and averaged a still respectable 105 for the year. I think with the emergence of Dangerfield, Sloane, and a few other exciting crows youngsters that Scotty may go back to doing his thing in the guts and may get a head to head matchup rather than hard tag. Could push 110 average again this year i would think. Pretty vital to the crows top 4 chances as he was the no. 1 clearance player statistically in the competition last year. has missed 1 game in the past 3 years so is super durable. Looking at maybe taking him over Boyd and saving around 50k.

Scotty T was my first picked last year. Should go well again just could not fit him in this year with Swan Gary Cotch & Watson

Tutt could play 20 games and average 85! If he can regain some of his late-2011 form, get some confidence and get into the team it's a distinct possibility.

Cotch was tagged very heavily last season yet still pushed through for a great average, and teams'll have to wise up to tagging Deledio a bit too.
With Goddard here Stants' will get tagged less and will be able to seagull it up. Don't be surprised if he hits a few more 170+ scores like he did twice last season.
Redden and Murphy will both go forward for sure, they're potential 115 averagers.

Teams won't try to tighten up on Cotch, he copped some very heavy tags last year and came through them. On numerous occassions teams would start the game tagging cotch but by half time no one would be running with him as he was just too good.

Highly unlikely for Redden to go backwards, he is a jet and the addition of Moloney to the team should take a bit of heat off of him, and besides, I see him as a Boyd-like player so it's pretty much ineffective to tag him. Also with Leu back in the team he will be serviced by better tapwork.

Basically I think it would take something completely unforseeable for either of these blokes to go backwards, and is more likely for them to go forwards rather than remain constant with last year. I won't make an argument for the other two because I'm not starting them ;)

I made a similar thread last season.  I've started with Boyd for the past four years now, but I've decided not to this year.  Can't really fit him in, epsecially seeing as I'm starting with Swan and Ablett plus Cotch, Redden and Murph.  If he starts pumping out the score which we know he can then I'll certainly upgrade to him sooner rather than later.

Pick Boyd. But be below me :o
