Freo will be resting 11 players and it has apparently been cleared as ok by the AFL

the rule allowing it really needs to be tightened up IMO

They are getting away with it because they are using fatigue as the reason for those that aren't actually carrying and injury or actually injured.

If there was a chance of a top 2 spot (know they are there) they would be going all out to get a spot.

I think that's the crux of it - doesn't affect any other team's finals position one way or the other, so to me - so long as w/in the rule as assessed by the AFL and if the footy club is giving everyone (ie betting markets  ::)) the telegraphed signal ... why not? they earned it ...

what's the difference with teams resting/managing players (older, rookies, etc) through the season really apart from the number of players in this case ...

Although im not a fan of mass restings if I was Ross i'd more than likely do exactly the same thing, Has zero affect on the comp as far as where teams finish/who they play in the first week of finals, not sure Port would be entirely thrilled as it may affect how many turn up to their home game, being the last game they should get close to a full house but with the result not in doubt if Freo rest eleven many could decide to give it a miss.

AFL have opened a can of worms by allowing it as no doubt other clubs will be saying hey if they can so can we now the rule has been allowed to be messed with.

Football Factory

It just makes the game showere, Port are going to pump them, may aswell cancel the game, will Freo supporters want to go to the game ? Will this affect the revenue that the home team gets ?

I really don't care either way, just doesn't seem right.

GM

Tinkering with form and confidence , I wouldn't do it.
They get a week off anyway if they win the first final.
Out in straight sets last year.
Personally , I think it could happen again.

Love for that to happen, Ross could be back in Melb coaching the Bombers then. Lol

Bones from the Advertiser gets in on the act as well regarding this.

It's not a great look for our game mate and as said I don't like it as other teams will say well we are fatigued to and if you let one then others will argue why can't we. Freo doesn't bother me a great deal as it has zero affect on any part of the comp except for draft picks probably but I still don't agree with it, now North wants to rest some so where does it end.
Bit out of left field this but why not give the top 8 a week off prior to finals commencing to keep the comp legit, I understand it's not a brilliant idea but does serve a purpose in keeping every minor round game legitimate, thought's.

You'd think it has to hurts Port's bottom line ($) don't you.

Agree it is risky to flirt with team form, Ross obviously doesn't feel the same as us mate.

Didn't work for them last time they did this

Nuh it blew up big time didn't it.
Think Ross is aware they are a fair way off from being the best side in the 8 at the minute and see's it as a major advantage
which it is if it doesn't affect Freo's form which it clearly can but seeing their not in great form probably thinks it's an advantage, for me winning form is the best form although if i was coaching them i'd be tempted to flirt with the idea if my team was genuinely sore and fatigued, I highly doubt i'd rest eleven though just messes with form to much I think.

One round left can we hold onto it with the mass carnage of outs to be thrown upon us, I bloody hope so.
Big thanks to everyone for giving it a red hot crack and being so invested in getting this for FanFooty and
of course ourselves but it may be totally out of our hands this week. Great group and you deserve it you really do.
