Jason Tutt
Midfielder
Western Bulldogs
$203,000

2011 Games: 3
2011 Average: 89.6
2011 Scores: 122, 61, 86

2012 Games: 5
2012 Average: 39.4
2012 Scores: 26 (GV), 21 (GV), 73, 39, 38 (RV)

Summary: After being taken at pick 31 in the 2009 draft from Ainslie, the same side James Hird was recruited from, the outside midfielder who can also play back and forward made a sensational debut against Port Adelaide where he picked up 26 possessions and 4 goals, including 3 in his first 3 kicks. Tutt then finished 2011 with two 17 possession games against Hawthorn and Fremantle, collecting 61 and 86 DT points. His second season was less impressive, spending much of the year injured, playing 5 games in a row later on in the season to average just 39.4, with 2 of those 5 games having started as the sub and 1 other being subbed off in the third quarter. Boasting an impressive kick and a high level of stamina, the 21 year old who turns 22 in May.

Verdict: If Tutt can reclaim the form he showed in his debut season, retain fitness and force his way into an aging Western Bulldogs midfield, he could average high and be a handy player for your dream team.
Predict Average: 75-80 when not green/red vested.

200k is a fair price for him, if you've got 100k left over when season starts I'd chuck him in for a midfield rook, assuming he's named in the team and has had solid pre-season form.

Mr.Craig

I still remember that game against Port. Thought he was going to be the biggest thing since sliced bread.

His 2012 VFL stats aren't very inspiring though...42, 62, 19, 53, 57 and 85 (Ave: 53). The influx of midfield talent over the last 12 months will probably see him stay on the outer I think.

"Tutt produced his best performance for the year in round 14 of the VFL with a performance that subsequently saw him elevated to the senior squad the following week. The Canberra product had 14 touches, four marks, four tackles and three goals."

So not all bad.

Yeah, I think everyone thought he'd be a gun after his first 3 games.

I won't be considering him at 200k, mabye at rookie price, but he doesn't have great JS.

Nice write up though Jukes.

Cheers mate.

Yeah I'd say JS will be his main issue. Will have to compete with blokes like Hrovat, Hunter, Macrae, Lower, Smith, Stevens and Wallis for a spot behind Boyd, Griffen, Cooney, Picken and Liberatore.

I think that Tutt rates ahead of those players for two reasons. First, he has more AFL experience than most of them bar Lower, Stevens and Wallis. Second, he has great versatility. He specialises as an outside mid, but we've seen him play small forward who often goes up the ground, ie his first match, and a small backman to play on opposition small forwards, as we saw against Carlton in 2012 on Garlett.

Pre-Season Focus:
"The young pup will be looking to consolidate a more regular spot in the Bulldogs starting lineup in 2013 and will be eager to get an injury free pre-season under his belt. While outside dash is one of his strengths, Tutt has continued to work on the contested side to his game this year which is likely to continue this Summer."
