If Bennell and Swallow and all the rest start playing really well teams wont let Ablett run around by himself as much because they might actually lose games if that happens. In the past 2 years opposition teams were ok with Ablett having 40 possessions because they would still win by 10 goals.

If Bennel and Swallow played like Premiership Players from Geelong, Ablett would still score well. 30 quality disposals leading to goals might convert to higher SC scores than 40 possessions all over the field.

only if they are goal assists. ablett's effective possession count is already way up there and his effeciency % will stay the same.

Effective i.e. Impact.

Either way it doesn't matter which way you look at it. Put Ablett into any top 8 team in place of their weakest mid, and he will still outscore Pendles, Danger, J.Kennedy, Mitchell etc etc regardless of the 'attention' shift towards him.

I think you can get away with no Ablett on the condition that

1. You nail the captaincy emergency loop hole.

2. You nail the Ablett replacement as well as the accompanying picks that come from the extra funds.

Easier said then done.

I can't believe this is still being discussed...

Q: Is Ablett really a lock?

The only way i see you nailing a pick with the extra funds would be to go from a risky mid-pricer pick to a premium. Say, Martin to Bartel. Personally if i were to go without Ablett it would have to a Swan or Pendlebury type who are also capable of the really high end scores Ablett can produce.

St.FatBoy

To even consider this would have been suicide the past 6 years, however, McKenna made note on the weekend of handing load onto others to extend GAJ's career.  Would you go in GAJ-less v a GAJ captain team?????

sounds like the smart people are coming out of the cracks
i think the best summation i found:

i will bring gaz in, but when hes under 600k cause thats where hes falling with a 115-125 average

cotchin, pendles, dangermouse, are just three names off the bat. your saying they wont ever out do gaz when you consider what his situation is

29 this year
gold coast team now entering its 3rd year in AFL, after 1 year at the lower affiliate level
highly prized drafting of d.swallow, benell, materia, smith, and now jager the swan districts gun who was listed at the age of 16 cause he was so good
the emergence of this midfield will have the same affect as it did at collingwood
swan was the perma captain, now fights for number 1 spot with pendles, in considering, beams, sidebottom, krak, thomas, varcoe all guys with 50-150 games in their prime midfield time
the emergence there dropped swans average
that and gaz is 29, he will be rested more on the bench and up forward, average possies will drop from 38-40 down to 30-33 may add a goal or two every so often but it will be just that SO OFTEN

and your come back is? he will be averaging 140 cause he is gaz and he is the son of god and my dog speaks english and it rains donuts when im hungry

But...
...The emergence of Collingwood's youngsters actually improved Swan's average...His average increase by 5 including an injury interrupted score and he went from averaging 31 possies a game in 2011 to 35 possies  in 2012.
...Varcoe plays for Geelong

Ridiculous thread isn't it.. I just lol'd at the thread title

+1 Mark he won't appreciate much , buy at less than 650k. Loophole with others will work most weeks until he does. If you take one of Kennedy and pendles best scores from each round last year I am guessing they beat Ablett.

So you still think :

Pendles + Kennedey + Premium  X + Premium Y + Premium Z + Midpricer (Moloney) and playing the VC lottery between Pend/Ken

Is better than:

Ablett + Pendles + Kennedey + Premium  X + Premium Y + Koby Stevens  and playing the VC lottery between Ablett and the other 2 ......
