Hmmmm a few mistakes made in picking that squad I think.

Jon Holland and Michael Beer are obviously injured so they both weren't picked, but I think that Steve O'Keefe should have got the nod over Xavier Doherty. Still, Doherty has been impressive in the limited overs this summer and hopefully the Indian conditions will help him well. Probably better than picking Zampa or Boyce.

I hate the fact that Smith is back in the squad, I really don't see him as offering us too much. I would have preferred a bolter to come into the side like Joe Burns who looks a good prospect for the future. Still, I doubt Smith will get a game.

I think that we will be playing an allrounder at 7, with Wade at 6, meaning Khawaja will probably not get a spot back in the side until Watson starts bowling again, or he moves up to open and Cowan gets dropped, which had better happen by the time the Ashes start.

This would be my XI for the first test as it will probably be picked.

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Wade
Henrqiues
Starc/Pattinson
Siddle
Lyon
Doherty

I think we go with the left-right arm finger spin combination and play the two quicks, Siddle being one and Starc or Pattinson the other. Then we would probably use Henriques as the allrounder for some more fast-medium pace. I think that the side is a bit short on batting when Watson is not bowling, and I really hope he can start bowling again soon and that Cowan will be dropped.

Does anyone reckon Jackson Bird will get a go in the test matches in India? He is obviously a much better version of Hilfnehaus, keeping him out of the squad, but I would still probably think of him as the third paceman in the Aussie attack. I think Pattinson has impressed more with his fire and pace, and one of the left armers might be favoured for their variety. Or do we play Lyon only, Maxwell as the allrounder and then 3 quicks?

Nah Indian conditions don't help 90 kmph bowlers with no penetration, loop or turn. Doherty is a spud. An awful, awful selection. Clearly just wanted a spinner who turned it the opposite direction to Lyon.

We're going to need 5 legitimate bowlers to win in India and O'Keefe could have been the 5th and avoided us playing someone like Maxwell/Doherty. Pacemen win tours in India though aside from the English one... look at all the touring teams of India; those series were won off the back of pace bowlers. Going in with 2 front liners when our seamers >>>> our spinners is, in one word, stupid.
Doherty aint a spud

If he gets selected in the XI at any point, for any game, watch him struggle and spud up. Can't play the longer form.
Ok, But why would any team play 2 spinners?

Because it can pretty much turn square in India. England were playing 3 spinners when they were there recently.

Perhaps he has been rotated out of the squad after all that backyard and beach cricket he had to play in the Commenwealth Bank ads?

and Voges got 112, pity neither can do it in a green shirt

Ive been thinking of him for a while, but after today's innings I'm convinced. Bring in George Bailey for the Ashes at number 6. He has the ability to play a long innings and wait it out and then turn it on if we need a few quick runs.

I've been a long time fan of Bailey, he is a much better Number 6 than Wade or Maxwell

But these days, batsmen get picked for their bowling and bowlers get picked for their batting   :-\

Shaun Marsh scored 84 for WA, batting at No. 5, in their Sheffield Shield game against Queensland today. He's starting to hit some form in all formats.

For anyone who cares, from the Melbourne Renegades Facebook page:

QuoteBREAKING NEWS: National selectors show continued faith in Aaron Finch by naming him captain of Australia A for the upcoming ODI series against England Lions.

National Selector John Inverarity: "“Aaron Finch impressed as captain of the Melbourne Renegades and he will captain the side. Tim Paine will be his deputy.”

Australia A squad:
Aaron Finch (c) VIC
Tim Paine (vc) TAS
Cameron Boyce QLD
Joe Burns QLD
Nathan Coulter-Nile WA
Ben Cutting QLD
Callum Ferguson SA
John Hastings VIC
Josh Hazlewood NSW
Shaun Marsh WA
Kane Richardson SA
Adam Voges WA

BB67th

Hmmm well I didn't even hear about this upcoming series at all. The Lions are playing Victoria in a match right now and are being smashed.

The Vics kept them down to 8/225 off their 50, with Boland taking 3 wickets.

In return Vic are 1/187 after almost 30 overs with Bobby Quiney making a ton!

Sapientia

6 bowlers/bowling ars in the squad of 12.

I guess they're running with the whole 4 bowlers who can bat beat an allrounder logic.
1. Finch
2. Marsh
3. Burns
4. Ferguson
5. Voges
6. Paine
7. Cutting
8. Richardson (Aware on stats he's not better than the others but he really is. Far more technically proficient for one)
9. Hastings
10. Coulter-Nile
11. Hazlewood/Boyce.

I guess the #9/10 are too strong for their position and the #7/8 are too weak.

Meh.

So the Indian series is about to start as the Aussies are playing some park cricket at the moment. The Idian series could tell the world alot about the up coming years of both Australia and Indian cricket
