Shane Warne will be publishing his awaited article today about where Australian Cricket has gone wrong, and it looks as though some action may come of it. Eager to see what he has to say.

Oh god no, if Warner doesn't get up, there goes any chance of us actually wining in India. Would mean Watto is free to open though, but Cowan would also most likely keep his spot up to the Ashes which is not what we need at all.

Warne also publsihed the first half of his piece on Australian Cricket, and I liked the suggestions he made.

His selectors would be Rod Marsh (Chairman), Glenn McGrath, Mark Waugh and Damien Martyn. I like this because we are giving legends of the game who have heaps of top level experience the selectors role, not to people like John Invararity who doesn't know crap.

His coach would be Stephen Fleming. A bit left field, but Fleming is a great leader and by all accounts a good coach, and this could really work with the team.

But I think his best suggestion there is to give the cricket CEO role to Mark Taylor. Tubby is the perfect fit here, as he is all Australian Cricket and would be the right man to lead us I think.

I think there are some good suggestions stated here, but hey as long as we are getting people who actually played cricket, and not rugby, I'm fairly happy. I hope something really does start from this as we need some dramatic changes made to the makeup of Australian Cricket if we are to win any Ashes tests. The current selectors and board have just lost the plot.

And here's a link to Warne's full article.

Fleming was a brilliant captain so id say hed also be a great coach.

If Warney says it, DO IT !!!

Warney actually made some fair points, made they should listen to him.  :o  ::)

I don't get peoples hatred for Cowan, he see's off the new ball, that's what we need from him, especially in England. Went through a form slup but you've got to persist with him in my opinion.

I dislike Starc with a passion, but I despise Cowan even more. I'd prefer any other opener in the country to him.

At the end 6f the day, at least this is my opinion, you are not going to be picked, or liked for that matter, in Australia if you do not score runs. Ed can see off the new ball, but at the end of the day is it really worth it when he gets out half way through the day with only 25 runs to his name?

Not as bad a shout as it sounds. The lad's not even close yet but I'd be surprised if he didn't play for Australia one day.

Hmmmm a few mistakes made in picking that squad I think.

Jon Holland and Michael Beer are obviously injured so they both weren't picked, but I think that Steve O'Keefe should have got the nod over Xavier Doherty. Still, Doherty has been impressive in the limited overs this summer and hopefully the Indian conditions will help him well. Probably better than picking Zampa or Boyce.

I hate the fact that Smith is back in the squad, I really don't see him as offering us too much. I would have preferred a bolter to come into the side like Joe Burns who looks a good prospect for the future. Still, I doubt Smith will get a game.

I think that we will be playing an allrounder at 7, with Wade at 6, meaning Khawaja will probably not get a spot back in the side until Watson starts bowling again, or he moves up to open and Cowan gets dropped, which had better happen by the time the Ashes start.

This would be my XI for the first test as it will probably be picked.

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Wade
Henrqiues
Starc/Pattinson
Siddle
Lyon
Doherty

I think we go with the left-right arm finger spin combination and play the two quicks, Siddle being one and Starc or Pattinson the other. Then we would probably use Henriques as the allrounder for some more fast-medium pace. I think that the side is a bit short on batting when Watson is not bowling, and I really hope he can start bowling again soon and that Cowan will be dropped.

Does anyone reckon Jackson Bird will get a go in the test matches in India? He is obviously a much better version of Hilfnehaus, keeping him out of the squad, but I would still probably think of him as the third paceman in the Aussie attack. I think Pattinson has impressed more with his fire and pace, and one of the left armers might be favoured for their variety. Or do we play Lyon only, Maxwell as the allrounder and then 3 quicks?

TheAnt

Hilfenhaus is a swing bowler, Jackson Bird just hits the seam on a good length day in day out, he'll probably be the most effective of the quicks if there's no seam movement.
