No idea why everyone's keen on Marsh, I don't think he's the right choice, rather have an allrounder like Maxwell, Christian or someone like that.

I think 6 is a batting position that is really up for grabs at the moment. No doubt the selectors are looking for an allrounder in India if Watson won't be bowling and it looks as though either Maxwell or Henriques will get the nod, probably Maxwell at this stage in India, but if we play two specialist spinners Henriques could be a good fit.

Watson has the aim of returning to bowling by the Ashes. I am hoping he can do this and be the allrounder again while OPENING, which is the position he needs to play, or he doesn't play at all. I would like to see someone young and left field come into the team at 6, like a Joe Burns. Give them time to mature in the lower order, just like people like Waugh and Ponting did, and then in years to come, he can move up the order if needed.

I like this and I agree, I just don't think Marsh is the man. Moises or Maxy are probably the best options. If Maxy does go to India, it will really depend on how he performs there, or he'll be ousted with the click off a finger.

Warming to the idea of Faulkner playing the allrounder role as a bowling-allrounder batting at 7 with Wade at 6.

They probably won't do it for India but I think it might work in England.

FC average of 29 with the bat and this year averaging 22 with the ball.

Should clarify I said unlikely for India as they will probably want a spinning allrounder (Most likely Maxwell, yuck).

I really want to know why everyone rates Shaun Marsh so highly. Yes I know he scored a great century on debut, then struggled with injury and form for the rest of the year before he got dropped after India.

But he is 29 now, closer to retirement than debuting, and has never been a real prolific First Class run scorer. I mean, he only has 7 First Class centuries in 138 innings at an average of 35.61  Those are not figures good enough to warrant national selection.

And those who are saying he should be in the test team now are picking him on his T20 form. Yes he has had an excellent Big Bash, but before that he couldn't even keep his spot in the WA Shield side and was playing grade cricket for a month or two. At the moment he just isn't up to international standard, and definitely not up to a tour to India followed by 2 Ashes. He has had his chance and Usman deserves it a lot more than him.

Thank you! Pick Jimmy Faulks instead!

He is rated so highly because when in top form, he is arguably one of the best batsman, if not the best, in Australia. While he is only in T20 form at the moment, everyone is hoping that he can transfer that into Shield form and make a few big scores and press for selection where he could easlily fill the Mike Hussey hole.

If you're thinking that he is close to retirement then you are forgetting that Mike Hussey was 30 when he got his oppurtunity. Plus Khawaja has already had one chance so who's saying Marsh can't have another aswell, Phil Hughes had 3.

Alex Doolan looks really good, bit of a bolted but I think he could replace Hussey in the Test team, I rate him and Marsh highly

I actually think a good top 6 would be Warner, Watson, Hughes, Khawaja, Clarke, Doolan... Doesn't solve the issue of an allrounder though :/

BB67th

If only Andrew McDonald hadn't been injured for the whole summer. I'm sure he would have been Watson's replacement against South Africa instead of Quiney, and we could have gotten a real look at how he is at test match level.
