In my mind Hussey when he bowls a few overs and bats is better than Watson just batting. As Upthemaidens said I cant see Cowan doing well in India and he'll get squeezed out the squad

PowerBug

wtf is this with Bailey? He's not in Australias best 10 bats, why is he in your squads?

Clarke, Watson, Warner, Khawaja, Hughes, Ferguson, Cowan, Quiney, Wade, Haddin, D.Hussey.

He shouldn't be in the ODI squad let alone be captain. :-\

Hussey is a class act and with all the experience leaving the Australian squad this year, he should definitely be in the team. If we want to win both Ashes, we need to play the best team, no looking to the future because this is our biggest cricket series that we have, all he needs to is fill a role for 15 tests over the next year and with his great first class batting record and decent off spin bowling, he would be a good addition to the team.

And on Bailey, I don't mind him in the ODI side as he has the ability to come in and score his runs quickly and can be really explosive, but I don't think he should be in the test side as there are plenty of other batsman who deserve it ahead of him.

I like that squad if fit, just have Christian/Henriques (Whoever shows better form). Christian has alot to prove after being suspended from the Redbacks squad, thats why i think hes out of favour with the Nat selectors.

TheAnt

Either play Watson opener or not at all, that's the only place he's effective when batting.

PowerBug

Just been talking to Nigey and Jukes on chat, and we had a look at the lineups from the 2010/11 Ashes series. Here are the players who are still going around from that series:

England:
Cook
Trott
KP
Bell
Prior
Broad
Anderson
Finn
Swann

Australia:
Clarke
Watson (sorta)
Johnson
Haddin
Khawaja (sorta)
Hughes
Siddle

Big difference ey?

Has everyone forgotten Ryan Harris? Will love English conditions... rotated with Pattinson, Cummins and Bird as the right arm seam bowlers

Cookie311993

Watson has come out and said he wants to open and doesn't want to bowl. He wants to play as just at batter and wants to bat as opener

Hilfenhaus and Harris are finished test wise I feel. One of Johnson and Starc will tour. Wades ton secures his spot until the Ashes

1. Warner
2. Watson
3. Hughes
4. Khawaja
5. Clarke
6. Bailey/Maxwell/Hussey
7. Wade
8. Siddle
9. Pattinson
10. Lyon
11. Bird

12. Starc
13. Haddin
14. Cummins
15. Bailey/Maxwell/Hussey
16. Bailey/Maxwell/Hussey

For the Indian tour either Starc or Cummins dropped for either Boyce or Zampa

Why has everyone discarded Hilfy so quickly? He was the second highest test wicket taker for Australia last year and had the lowest average of all the bowlers (excluding Bird). Surely there is still a place in the team for him?

He has modified his action slightly, which has caused him to lose his ability to swing the ball. Bird has taken his position

TheAnt

Hilfenhaus has been carrying an injury..when he returns he'll be one of the few true swing bowlers at test level. Can't remember where I saw it but someone from Australia was saying they'd bring an extended squad to India and England (I assume that means more then just 16) so Hilfenhaus should have a spot atleast for depth.

Cookie311993

Not sure for India but for the Ashes, I've heard a couple on the fringe on the squad will be going over and playing county cricket

He can still swing it, and this modified action is what made him take the second most wickets for the year. If he's injury free he should still be in the squad at least.
