4. Ferguson
5. Clarke

12th man- Johnson
13. Starc

16. D. Hussey

We need experience, Haddin has been batting amazingly in the Sheffield Shield and we need experience in the middle order, this is also why David Hussey has been selected

Ferguson could be an unknown X factor to our line up which could trouble the english bowlers

Picking 5 bowlers was hard but i dont see Cummins being fit :(

Lyon shouldnt be in the team, but who else is gonna play? unless Cam Boyce or Zampa play well in India (rumoured to be picked for the indian series) he will be the number one

Why on earth are Haddin and Wade in the same XI?

While I don't want him in the team, he is actually in great batting form at the moment for NSW, and I believe he is playing as a specialist batsman there with Peter Nevil doing the keeping. Haddin is also touted as one of the best players of spin bowling in the country, so there is a possibility he could be strongly considered to be a short term fix for the Hussey gap.

with Quiney now keeping for the stars as well, it will be interesting to see who they take as the 2nd keeper now that Haddin has been chosen as the keeper for the first ODIs

Wow Quiney is keeping :o

Is he actually any good or does he look more like Phil Hughes did in that test match?

not sure, he has gone ok i think, i know he has been keeping the last 2 games, not too sure why??

Tominator

Haddin could keep and Wade could play as a batsman. Just a theory...

My updated 16 would be...

Warner
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
D. Hussey
Wade
Haddin
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon
Bird

Cummins (haven't seen enough of him to make a comment yet)
Khawaja
Johnson
Starc
Ferguson

Just missing out: Cowan, Hilfenhaus, Maxwell

We gotta look at the Ashes and get the best players for the short term then we can really have a great crop of more mature 25-28 year old players knocking down the door, it will be better for Australian Cricket imo

BB67th

This is interesting now with the Haddin situation I must say. He has definitely been in great form this season and his experience would be invaluable. I like the idea of him keeping and also playing Wade in the team as a batsman. I like the 11 Tom put just above and from what the selectors are hinting at, it seems that Dave Hussey is a really strong chance to go to India and the Ashes.

Haddin is in great form, terrific player of spin bowling, and more than anything, we probably need a bit of experience in that middle order now that we've lost Huss.

Quiney's actually been doing reasonably well as keeper. Wade is obviously the Stars' first choice keeper, but he's on international duties and I think they dropped Handscomb because he wasn't doing well enough with the bat to keep his place in the side so the gave the gloves to Bobby. That's how I see it.

Scrads

OK this thread has some madness in it. Haddin/Wade playing as specialist batsmen, Hughes/Quiney being test-grade keepers, Watson getting dropped, Henriques getting picked ?

This is the squad which IMO would be successful after reading an article from Cricket Australia saying Watson will ditch bowling and focus on batting and that Haddin will be taken on both tours specifically as a back-up keeper.

1. Warner
2. Watson - A daunting opening partnership for any opposition.

3. Hughes
4. Khawaja
5. Clarke - Clarke is permanent and Hughes has the #3 spot to himself for at the very least the India tour. Khawaja is my tip tp come in and make #4 his own after the retirement of Hussey.

6. David Hussey/Glenn Maxwell - Now I am not a huge fan of either of these blokes but with Watson not bowling, Clarke bowling at an absolute minumum for some reason and Lyon not being a dominant force, we will need the extra spinner for at least the India tour and probably the away Ashes. Hopefully by the home Ashes either Watson is bowling again or we can use someone like Johnson as the all-rounder.

7. Wade - First choice keeper has great batting ability

8. <Bowler>
9. <Bowler>
10. <Bowler>
11. Nathan Lyon

I left the 3 fast bowler spots open as it will simply be a merry-go-round between Siddle, Starc, Bird, Johnson, Pattinson and Cummins. So those 6 players account for spots 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14.

15. This spot will be for whoever is not playing out of Hussey and Maxwell in the starting side OR Cowan

16. Brad Haddin, Back-up keeper and if incredibly desperate, back-up batsman.

Let me know your thoughts.

tbagrocks

Kind of agree with you, I am slightly skepticle on Wade's keeping though, i'm thinking Paine, only pos 6 and 7 have me guessing
