ONE WEEK TO GO TEAM:

Thoughts?

roti

As you said this is something you threw together, and we all know how knowledgeable you are at this game so i have no doubt you'll end up with something a lot better then this. To be honest its an alright team not as bad as i first thought at a gland. In defence if you're running 2 rookies on the field i reckon you want 4 premo's, and gibbsy should definitely be one of them. You're mids are fine and with 4 super premos they will serve you well. would look at possibly wines instead of toumpas. Rucks again are strong, nothing wrong there. Forward line is decent, haven't seen a lot with tex not sure he will end up close to being a top 6 forward, rookies i doubt you'd be too bothered with at this point.
Overall think its a 7.5/10, think your defence and forward lines can be stronger but a good starting point.

It's a good first up effort, but the backs just need more firepower.

Grimes & God are good.

But Howard at 4 just doesn't look right.  :-\ I reckon another premium in the defense wouldn't go astray. As much as I love Hartlett you cannot trust him top play all games in a season, just because he is now DPP doesn't change that fact.  ;)

Solid top 4 mids. GAJ & Swan are must haves from the start IMO. I prefer Embely over Ball purely on price.  :-\

Taken a gamble with the forward line as well, Tex will no doubt up his average but with so many pseudo fwds like Thomas, Robbo ect it's hard to fit him in.

A good first up effort, just needs some tweaking. But hell, there is ages to go before round one.  ;)

good points guys, the team is already very different....

My thoughts on a few points.

Howard - Has been groomed to replace gilbee as the playmaker out of defence, game time icked up in the back half of 2012. No more Gilbee, Hargrave, Lake...

Rooks just not relevant at this stage.

Rucks will be burger and a DPP FWD premo and Daw plus another rook. pretty set here.

First 4 mids will include Swan Beams Ablett and either Cotchin or Pendles, that's set too.

Walker - well no tipett but hard to go past Zorko, Robbo and Daisy I admit....

Tempted also to be slipping LeCras and or Gray into that fwd line also.

Ball is probably a luxury I can't afford in any case and ikely not a starter.

Bock with a full preseason and good nab cup form at $280K will almost certainly start also.

Lots of work to do, just got the email from DT that the 2013 team picker was open so threw a team together.

Thanks for comments, look forward to more and my next post should be a tighter outfit than the above :) no experiments this season like last seasons debacle :)

Just thought I would throw one together to get started, ready to gear up for the 2013 season, very excited all about RUCK/FWD combo's this season and midfield depth and the who's who of the super talented rookies....

But we can't have it all.... yet.

Feel free to rate and comment, this is my first draft and a 15 minute exercise so much refinement to be done, but gives an indication of which way the wind is blowing in team Colliwobblers land at this early stage.

rookies are not an issues, so I wont mention them.

I would be sweating bullets every game with grimes and hartlett in my backline with the injury concerns. I like the unique pick in howard.

I'm extremely hesitant about picking players up post- break out year- they seem to have a tendency of going backwards when they cop more attention- I'm personally treating beams + cotchin as upgrade targets, pendles is of significantly more value than beams as well as being more proven. Really dont rate walker too highly- he's not cheap enough to be taking a risk on, considering the effect of him getting double teamed each week could have.

Hasn't nic nat had an interrupted pre-season? I find that a bit worrying, but I would see

Take #2.

Still work to be done. Lecars is tempting and a 5th elite mid is very very desirable, may drop a mid priced defender and downgrade an elite fwd to make room for the 5th elite mid.

Still need to change up mid rooks to get in a DPP FWD rook too.

Not sure if you have realized but Gray won't be ready for round one.

Consider Knights.  ;)

Thanks mate that's a shame upgrade I guess :)

given I want that 5th elite mid probably turn him into a rook.

kilbluff1985

even with best 18 scores counting during byes you will struggle in round 13 losing your 4 starting premos you might have another 1 or 2 premo mids by then but still not the best structure

JBs-Hawks

Personally as it will be zorkos 2nd year he will be a upgrade target for me if he guns it. Personally prefer deboer, wright or martin.

Yehh as some people have said obviously this is something youve just thrown together at this stage. obviosuly in decemeber no team is going to be set in stone.

-Good to see you got Pendles in in the second attempt. Ive locked him away with Murphy, both are quite underpriced and i think murphy under malthouse should flourish a bit more.
-Surely you HAVE to have Gibbs in def. again playing under Malthouse should get plenty on midfield time and we all know what he can score when he gets a run through the guts...
- I like the pick of Harlett, if he goes niggle free during this pre-season i would almost lock him in, the kid is a freak and maybe under the new coach should get more midfield time + port have picked up a stack of rebounding defenders so they may not need Hammer there anymore.
-Grimes will be one of the best backs come end of the year, but i dont think he provides as much value as someone like Gibbs/Hartlett as i see those 2 incrasing their average but i see Grimes averaging around the same, maybe a few points more. Therefore Grimes at this stage is looking like an upgrade target for me.
- I think Beams is average pick to start with this year, purely cos i cant see him averaging much more and with Ball back in the side, may average a few points less. You may well disagree i know hes a bloody freak at racking it up, just my opinion :)
-Think a fit Josh Kennedy is better value than Gray and probably less of an injury risk. could make some quick cash and provide a good stepping stone to a premium.
-Cox is a good pick just dont see much value in him either :\ i know you probably want the DPP link but just how much longer can he keep doing what hes doing? plus with Lynch gone he may spend even more time forward...just something to think about.
-Im wary of starting with Dasiy, pretty serious off season surgery and will have a limited pre season. could spend the first few rounds more forward than midfield as he builds his fitness base and with Ball/Beams/Sidebum all going at it in the mids, makes things even trickier. i may look to upgrade to him.
- Get the mullet back in your team ;)
-Lastly interesting picks with Howard and Bock, but if you're confident in them then i cant see why not. another alternative to them could be Reece Conca, but he costs a bit more.

Andrew

Good basis for a team early on. You'll find yourself tweaking it as more news comes to hand on players progress back from injury. Nit Nat would have to be 50/50 for mine to be starting Round 1, and Gray will take a month at least it seems. That makes your pick of Cox a smart one and he could be dominating the ruck even if Nic Nat is eased into it from the get-go. Josh Kennedy was a good idea from the previous poster, and I also think Embley is worth a shot in your midfield if Luke Ball is. I've got both locked into my midfield: http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,69907.0.html

Just some thoughts from an Eagles fan :P But hey you know the team you follow the best, I'm sure you know what it's like.

How about running Varcoe as the 5th mid, still gives you that DPP and will outscore a rookie.

That's what I'm doing. Only he is M6.  ;)

Sounds like you have too much money to throw around haha.
