No Pendles, colli? I don't reckon we'll see many without him this season, let alone Collingwood fans.

Would rate him personally over Beams, not just for his price and/or potential off-field dramas, but should average higher imo.

I have Pendles in SC naturally, but Beams for DT. I know where you and everyone is coming from but Beams I think will improve further this season.

He didn't break out in 2012 he broke out in 2011 averaging 102 from 16 games. He is a super star, a cross between Swan and Pendles I think he is certain to be the best footballer in the league in the next season or two. Maybe after Ablett and Swan retire.... But I don't think there is a player that comes near him for all round footballing excellence.

Too Much?

OK to back up my man/fantasy crush on Beams, some facts about 2012;

From rounds 5-23 Beams ranked in the AFL -

#1 for uncontested possessions
#1 for handball receives
#2 for disposals
#6 for inside 50's
#7 for clearances
#8 for contested possesions

He kicked 28 Goals and he and Garry were the only two players in the AFL to average at least 25 disposals and kick at least 25 goals in the AFL.

He had an injury interrupted preseason and missed the first game of 2012, we all know how severely a player is effected from having an interrupted preseason.

Elevated to the 4 man only leadership group, full preseason, I just can't see him going any way but up and Pendles while one of the most consistent scorers in DT had maxed out at 117, beams averaged 116 last season, this season I expect 125.

Ball will help, Ball is inside and Beams is outside, Ball if anything will help his scoring and increase his possessions especially going forward which could lead to more goals...

I don't think you could go wrong with either, but with 444,444 trades I am making this selection on emotion and BEAMS is locked :)

Capper

I would agree with you. Beams for DT and Pendles for SC.

You might be getting too much sun up there in Brisbane as you have 5 lions players now and 4 port players whilst only having 3 Pies.

azza707

Ball wont help Beams imo. If anything it might hamper his scores. lets say Ball averages 85 for the year. those 85 points have to come from somewhere, you can just randomly add 85 points to the total average of Collingwood DT scores. that means that Ball getting the ball is one less chance for someone else to get a possession. I know it might sounds very simplistic and may not always be the case, but the addition of Ball back into the collingwood midfield might actually hurt some players averages by anywhere between 1-10 points. For all we know Beams may go back to a HFF/midfield role. who knows. Beams being on the outside more doesnt necessarily mean he may still rack it up just as much. he might average one extra kick and handball for example, but he may average 2 less tackles from not being in the middle of the pack all the time.

Thats just a few things to think about, but i've chosen to go Pendles over players like Beams/Sidey purely cos we know how good he is with or without Ball in the side and he had an average year (by his standards last year). I just see more value in Pendles that i do in Beams. Dont get me wrong Beams is still a good pick, maybe id you were going to select someone like Boyd or Watson id rather take Beams as he is a safe pick and you know what to expect. Imho i just dont seem him increasing his average by anymore than 1-3 points at best.

I agree with you I do get too much sun :)

I was entertaining the idea of Hartlett  :o  But also Stanley and Grimes for that D3 spot it is a tough one...

I am seriously considering both Atley and Russell (PIE) for that D4 spot

And the rooks will sort themselves out closer to round 1, but I think Wines and Stevensen should prove to be certainties

Neade I am unsure of and Pittard could become Tambling(surely not?) or Brown from Adelaide if Tbag proves to be right about him...

O'Hailpin could be Rowe if Rowe continues as he started in nab cup but I think O'hairpin might play a bit this season, and DAW is a long way off yet but I thought he would step up this season, I may be wrong about him based on the latest article from Scott on him, I know he is a long way off an AFL player but thought he would add something to Norths line up playing fwd and pinch hitting - not sure now....

North are serious about finals and Daw is clearly not ready even though he had a great VFL season... so maybe Witts there ?

Not sure they need Currie since he is the same as Goldy (Style) and not worth much playing fwd?

Be good to see JJKennedy this week and next with no Cue Stick and WCE easy draw he could steal Byrnes spot....?

then I have to see Ball next week ( won't play this week) and make sure I am happy with his fitness and Moloney I am sceptical on, but so far so good on him?

@ azza707 - fair points - but Blair first then sidebottom will go out of the midfield and fwd before Beams will. Also Pendles plays more of an inside role so he would be more effected by Balls return than Beams. Blair played Balls role however in 2012 more than anyone so realistically I don't see a lot changing in 2013 for either Beams or Pendles but it will for Blair and possibly Sidebottom.

Still we won't know until the season is under way - as you rightfully said either one is a relatively safe pick, I have Swan and I have Ablett so I cannot have both Pendles and Beams 4 out in one bye round would cost me too much.

Ball will be gone by then IMO he has always averaged 90-100 so once he hits the price of a 90 average mid i will upgrade him same with Moloney.

Plan to Bring Pendles in after the Bye as my LAST mid upgrade.

tbagrocks

CW that's a great plan, but you are crazy so it doens't count

Why leave our a clearly cheaper Pendlebury :o

I thought I made it clear? I can only have 2 Pies plus Ablett up until round 13 and Beams will outscore Pendles.

I could start all 3 plus Ablett and use two trades getting one out and back in again either side of the bye but those rounds are the perfect time to do upgrades and downgrades so wasting the trades for this purpose might not be the best idea.

All of the people saying this now would have said the same thing last season - PENDLES WILL OUTSCORE BEAMS.

So what makes you so sure you won't be wrong again this season?

just saying....

Struggling with this! this team involves NOT starting burger, plan to nring him in after he plays 2 or maybe as many as 4 sub par or sub effected games. Meanwhile taking advantage of a midpricer on the fwd line making cash that burger won't be.

Will trade the worst of byrnes karnezis and varcoe to burger once burger is ready and have a splash of cash in the bank in case.

DEPP Mids, 3 DEF is enough with all the rooks.

Mid Priced FWD line, with Cox to return to it when burger comes into ruck, and alite ruck.

Thoughts? suggestions? HELP? :)

Windigo

I'm starting Currie, just think that two premo rucks isn't worth it. A fair chunk of cash for a position where a 90+ average isn't a given.. :-\

Hey CW..interesting option that could strengthen your team.
Cox into forwards, Currie on field, swing Rowe in for for Daw, perhaps Lee in for Rowe ....then...drop out Byrnes or Varcoe and use the cash to upgrade Moloney to a keeper. My logic being that Moloney is taking rookie upgrade spot anyway so why not just lock the spot away. Or downgrade Moloney and get in big Trav...There you go..all because Currie may get a game or 3..lol.. 8)

Colliwobblers

Latest effort lost faith in Varcoe. Don't think he will either score big or make much money, Lecras is there to tread water and score decently until an upgrade or downgrade presents, be it burger or a fwd that is a must after two games, could be anyone. Got to have points on the park from round 1 tho and i don't think there are enough points in varcoe tbh.

Money

Solid team Colli, cant really fault anything, I like you're back on the berger train, I was thinking of getting him back myself

Mr.Craig

I'm a much bigger fan of your latest team.

Justin Bieber

I only got a few changes in my main core.

Beams, Danger, Heppell, leuy and Buddy.

The rest about the same and the rest the same.
