Tom Lee

Club: St.Kilda

Age: 21

Height: 194cm

Weight: 94kg

Position: Key Forward

Recruited: Pre Selected GWS on Traded to St.Kilda

Tom Lee was the Runner Up in Claremont’s best and fairest,  after kicking 60.20 goals in the WAFL this season. It comes as no surprise that with St Kilda’s aging forward line, that Lee was recruited to play senior football, and is a long term prospect for the club moving forward.

Dean Towers

Club: Sydney

Age: 22

Height: 189cm

Weight: 83kg

Position: Wing/Half Back

Pick: No.22 National Draft

The Best way to describe Dean Towers is that he is in the same mould as Isaac Smith. He is a Mature Aged player who has explosive speed and a solid kick,  and Towers should break his way into the Swans team either on a Wing or off a back flank. With questions over Jude Bolton’s knee, Towers could slot into the side early in 2013, and as a mature age player with a wealth of senior playing experience, has been drafted to play senior football for the reigning premiers from get the go.

Dean Terlich

Club: Melbourne

Height: 185cm

Weight: 85kg

Position: Half Back

Pick: No.68 National Draft

Melbourne have already mentioned that they expect Dean Terlich to play senior football in 2013, but realistically was drafted to play in Round 1. Terlich was Best On Ground in the Norwood’s SANFL Premiership win, ability to play rolling back flank to midfield. Terlich has already spent time on Sydney’s list, back in 2008, and has the advantage of already undertaking an AFL preseason, which will hold him in good stead for 2013. With the recent retirement of Clint Bartram, you can expect Terlich to play a mountain of football this coming season.

Matt Jones

Club: Melbourne

Age: 25

Height: 188cm

Weight: 81kg

Position: Midfield

Pick: No.52 National Draft

Melbourne have brought in a bit of mature age talent in this draft, and Matt Jones, like Dean Terlich was selected by the Demons to play straight away in 2013. Jones is a classy on-baller who will add depth to the Demons midfield and has a reputation for being a ferocious and a tenacious tackler, as well as a smooth mover on the outside of packs, where he hits forwards lace out, and can also finish on goal.

Daniel Currie

Club: North Melbourne

Age: 23

Height: 200cm

Weight: 83

Position: Ruckman

Pick: No.56 National Draft

Daniel Currie had a fantastic season for North Adelaide in the SANFL, and was previously was on Sydney’s list for a few years before being delisted, as the swans had a plethora of ruckmen. With Hamish McIntosh recently leaving the Roos, you can expect Currie to be played in 2013 with only Todd Goldstien in front of him in the pecking order. Currie will be another solid option for your fourth ruck spot, and will come cheap as chips, too.

Dylan Van Unen

Club: Essendon

Age: 22

Height: 189cm

Weight: 88kg

Position: Half Back

Recruited: No.51 National Draft

Dylan Van Unen is a rebounding defender, who can play off a forward flank if need be, as well as down back where he has played his best football. He was recruited from Frankston after spending 3 seasons with Box Hill in the VFL. Frankston coach Simon Goosey said Van Unen could make an immediate impact in the AFL, and he will be one to cast an eye over in 2013.

Mark Hutchings

Club: West Coast

Age: 21

Height: 180cm

Weight: 82kg

Position: Midfield

Pick: No.60 National Draft

Mark Hutchings has had a superb two seasons with West Perth in the WAFL and was the Runner-Up in the 2012 Sandover Medal and also won West Perth’s best and fairest.  Hutchings previously spent a season on the Saints rookie list, so he too is accustomed to the AFL system. If he does break into the Eagles team expect him to play off a flank or as an outside midfielder. He’s a mature body with a wealth of senior football behind him, but given the depth the Eagles currently possess, he might be one we will be forced to wait one in the second half of the year.

Mr.Craigs Rookie Spotlight    http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,68079.msg945588.html#msg945588

Leigh Osborne

Club: Gold Coast

Age: 22

Height: 182cm

Weight: 80kg

Position: Defender/Midfielder

Recruited: Pick 2 Rookie Draft

Leigh Osborne is a rebounding defender/midfielder, and was given his chance via the rookie draft. There is no questioning Osborne’s talent as a footballer, however if he can prove his worth throughout the Pre Season and NAB Cup he could be promoted to the Suns senior list before Round 1. Osborne should provide good Backline security, as a mature player who can add depth and stability to a young Gold Coast outfit.  Osborne’s drive off half back is the hall mark of his game, setting play up further afield, and is seen as a high possession getter, and an impact player.

Brett Goodes

Club: Western Bulldogs

Age: 28

Height: 184cm

Weight: 94kg

Position: Defence/Midfield

Recruited: Pick 4 Rookie Draft

Brett Goodes finally gets his chance at 28 year’s old, and you can bet your bottom dollar he’ll make every second worth it. The younger brother of dual Premiership and Bronlow medal â€" Adam â€" Brett will play mainly across the half back line for the Bulldogs in 2013 if he gets Promoted to the Senior List. Goodes is ready made for AFL Football so he could also play through the midfield as he is very strong through his upper body and through his core. Goodes also posses the great DPP status, and will be able to be selected between Defence and Midfield. He’ll be a great lock as a backline rookie.

Kane Mitchell

Club: Port Adelaide

Age: 23

Height: 174cm

Weight: 78kg

Position: Midfield

Recruited: Pick 5 Rookie Draft

Kane Mitchell was an elite midfielder in the WAFL playing for Claremont this season, and took home the Sandover Medal, WAFL’s most coveted individual honour. Mitchell is also strongly in line to be  promoted to the senior list and his fitness, strength and overall talent should see him play majority of games for Port Adelaide in 2013. Mitchell is a goal kicking midfielder, an asset that aligns with other previous mature age players, Michael Barlow and Dayne Zorko. Mitchell has already been spoken about as one of the best mature age pickups from 2012.

Jaryd Cachia

Club: Carlton

Age: 21

Height: 184cm

Weight: 84kg

Position: Midfield

Recruited: Pick 9 Rookie Draft

Fate or coincidence â€" no matter which way you look at it, Jaryd Cachia was an elite midfielder in the SANFL this year for Norwood, also taking home best on ground, and Norwood’s best and fairest in it’s premiership year in 2012. The former Carlton rookie (yes, he was originally on Carlton’s books, before they delisted him) has shown how much he has improved his game since being dumped; he is a workhorse, rentlless in his approach to football, and has really fined tuned some areas of his game, which otherwise let him down during his time at Carlton.  Cachia has some serious size, and Mick Malthouse has addressed the need for more midfield depth which could see Cachia finally debut for the Navy Blues.

Mr.Craigs Rookie Spotlight   http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,68079.msg943945.html#msg943945

Kyle Martin

Club: Collingwood

Age: 22

Height. 182cm

Weight: 81kg

Position: Midfield

Recruited: Pick 14 Rookie Draft

Kyle Martin was a revelation for Frankston in the VFL in 2012. In his first season playing VFL football, Martin took home Frankston’s Best & Fairest, and also capped a great year with Victorian selection.  Martin was also the premier player in Melbournes EDFL, a league that is considered Melbourne’s best. Playing for Noble Park,  he played in two consecutive division one premierships, and stared in both. With Collingwood eligible to nominate a few rookies, and upgrade a few more due to the Veterans list â€" Martin has a tough ask in front of him to break into Collingwood’s best 22, but if he does, he is one to consider.

Mr.Craigs Rookie Spotlight   http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,68079.msg901692.html#msg901692

Sam Dwyer

Club: Collingwood

Age: 26

Height: 177cm

Weight: 74kg

Position: Half Forward/Midfield

Recruited: Pick 27 Rookie Draft

Sam Dwyer is in the same situation as Collingwood’s other recruit Kyle Martin. He would be in the best 22 of most bottom sides but will find it very difficult to break into Collingwoods best 22 at this early stage. Martin and Dwyer are both in contention for an elevation, and if Dwyer is promoted and does get game time - his DPP will be too good to overlook. Dwyer is one of few who have been considered to be the best mature age pickups of 2012 â€" and Derek Hine has already flagged him as a potential early starter in 2013.

GM

Lets hope a few of these turn out as good as Zorko and Gibson.

PurpleArmy

Matt Jones sounds promising, haven't heard his name thrown around much. Lets hope he gets a go

scotty_222

the only way leigh osbourne can come in and play straight up is through injury..
lti is the only way youll find him playing, otherwise it will be through rookie upgrade later on in the year

Cicjose

Mitchell is a gun and if in Port's round 1 team a certainty to be in my side

Mr.Craig

Jones, Van Unen and Cachia are falling through the DT cracks a bit but they could all potentially be handy picks.

Great writeup, just on Currie, you seem to have forgotten Majak. It will definitely be between those two.

Yeah their fighting it out for the spot .. im leaning towards Currie at the moment, is a bit older (2 years) and a bit taller  ;D  had a ripper year in the SANFL. Majak had a few issues last year which kept him out. Still a while to go before we know which rooks are the ones to go with.

kilbluff1985

Hi guys my first request for public rating since new structure

Mid structure depends on rookies named round 1 if need be i'll drop a fwd/def premo and get another mid premo if not enough rookies are named

forwards i think Martin and Robinson will have really good years but if Thomas recovers from ankle surgery in time he will replace one of them

If you not heard of M.Jones i suggest you find about him really happy with my rookies but Pittard will probably come in for Docherty

TEAM NAME: FIGJAM
DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, G. Birchall, J. Grimes, G. Broughton, C. Pedersen (S. Docherty, D. Terlich)
MID: S. Pendlebury, J. Kennedy, T. Cotchin, L. Ball, O. Wines, J. Lonergan, B. Crouch, J. O'Meara (M. Jones, J. Viney)

So angry Martin has gone to Collingwood. Would of been a lock at one of the lesser teams..
